Default Have I Totally Ruined my Anniversary Present-Help Please
My DH purchased an Oak Heart Key Ring/Charm for me for our Wedding Anniversary. I was so thrilled and dashed off to put it on my Oak Ledbury in far too much of a rush. In my haste and with the help of a screwdriver!!!! (to prise the metal ring open) as it was very stiff, I think I may have ruined it.

The two metal rings are now gaping open insted of the two metal rings laying together, I hope that makes sense.

My own fault for forcing the ring open to accomodate the base of the Led's handle.

I tried protecting the ring with a folded duster and then squishing the two rings together with a pair of pliers and whilst that thankfully didn't harm the ring any further it didn't help either.

It was such a lovely surprise and now I have gone and ruined it.

Please please can someone help.

xx

oh so sorry to hear that. My car key is really wide, and I had to prise a keyring open once to get it to go over, and it just would not go back. I actually plastered it together overnight really tightly and it did help the next day as it then sat back where it was supposed to, back to back metal again, if that makes sense :)

Not sure what to suggest but I'm sure someone will be along soon to help - you've def come to the right place anyway!

Good luck x

Oh NO

Could you perhaps squish it tight together & put it under some heavy books or something overnight?

I hope you get it fixed

But you had to open it to get it on the bag. Mulberry keyrings are ridiculously tight fitting and impractical. Don't blame yourself.

Thanks very much everyone.

Off to bind the two rings together and stick under encyclopaedia.

Fingers crossed.

I knew the answer would be with the great girls here, I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes.

I did the same thing spencer2004 with a heart keyring and haven't managed to fix. I left it under the castor of the computer table all night. No use. Then under a leg of the kitchen table on a tiled floor with various appliances piled on top and that didn't work either. I wonder if heat needs to be applied to get the metal rings together. I felt a total eejit. It's still on the bag but very precarious. Hope you are luckier

I feel for you so much hun, its a horrid sickening feeling but here's a few ideas.

You could leave it on the bag and super glue the rings together (hold with bulldog clips whilst curing) BUT this is only if you love the keyring on the bag of course!!

Im sorry but other than that Im struggling....maybe Mulberry would sell you a spare ring for not too much money if you really cant bear it!

Ells xx

The keyring should be designed in such a way that you can use it. If any attempt to use it damages this keyring, then, I am sorry, it is not fit for the purpose.(and refund is possible). You can ask staff at Mulberry to fit a keyring onto their display Ledbury without damage. If they can do it without difficulty, then you could blame yourself - but more likely they will struggle, and that will entitle you to a refund!

Hopefully you will be able to fix it but if the worst came to the worst, would it be possible to buy a cheap (and more user-friendly!) keyring and swap the metal ring bits? Must say ITA with what's already been said though - Mulberry should make sure the keyrings aren't so bloomin difficult to use - they certainly cost enough!

I wonder if you bring it to people who make keys etc if they might be able to fix it with their equipment... I hope it will be OK in the end...

That is a good idea. Please tell us how this ends up. I have too many keyrings that I dare not put on bags because of the stupid tight rings. It is ridiculous that Mulberry sell keyrings with clips too small to get on handles of Bayswater and Ledbury bags, where there is no other hardware to fit them. It forces you to use the rings which are a nightmare to even get keys on.

Ouch, I can feel your pain! I do agree that the design of the keyrings is silly and not user-friendly at all. Since they are used as bag-charms, the clasps should be larger and easy to attach - without damage on either the metal or the handle of the bag. I guess the best way would be to buy a spare keyring (non-mulberry!) and change the ring-part. A new mulberry ring would probably be equally damaged if you tried to fit it on to your bag.
Good luck!
