Wow, it's been a busy day of Mulberry chat today!!

KLP - well done on your decision making, your new sig looks good to me! A lovely selection of Mulberries. Oh & best get to the doc as the others say. I had a hosp appt yesterday for something which was sort of just go to get checked to make sure it's nothing. Thankfully it was nothing, phew! But I was still worried about it.

Teddies - looking forward to your report from Shepton, I'd love to go one day!

Kroquet - good luck with the op

Ali - your daughter sounds like quite a character

As for me, today was the first day in ages I've spent any length of time at home. I did some of the to do list but it's still huge! Getting a bit nervous now as the big day is fast approaching

Talking about daughters - I need to vent. My eldest is 4.5 and she started school last September (there is only 1 intake in cambs). She has always been bright and could write her name ages before she went to school. Now, all we hear from the teacher is negatives about her. Her handwriting needs to be improved, her social skills, and her reading. She has been put into a group of children needing extra reading lessons. We practice with her as much as we can and I think she is coming on well. They teach phonics and we have to "sound" the letters and then form the words which is great for words that obey the rules but so many don't. She does however recognise every sound and can sound every letter of the alphabet with us but the teacher has just written in her book that she really should be able to sound all the letters by now! She also needs to be able to sound double letters ie oo, ee, ae, ei. Then they give her a book with the word "laughing" to read and of course she can't read it. I'm starting to feel really demoralised. She is not 5 until July for gods sake. I just hope to goodness that she doesn't pick up on this negativity.

Sorry, rant over but it is really making me feel miserable on her behalf. Its a good job I don't live anywhere near a bays clutch or I might need to cheer myself up!

Ali-b, your daughter's new found love of her crutch really made me laugh. I'm sure she'll get over it once she's all healed up and the crutch is gone.

Teddiescorner, have a great time on holiday! I hope SM proves to be all you had hoped for and that you come away with something lovely!

Blueberry, thanks for positive reinforcement re my culled collection. That makes it a bit easier to say goodbye to the ones that have gotten the chop. That's good news about you getting the all clear! Hopefully the doctors will tell me the same as they told you!

Bluecat, wow, that sounds like one mean teacher! Presumably there are other children in the group who can't read like she says they should. Which begs the question, why are children that age expected to read at the level? Clearly it's asking too much of many of them which rather proves the point that every child is different. Is it worth speaking to some of the other parents of children in your DD's special reading group? Then perhaps you could unite as one big force and go to the teacher or principal (not sure what you call it here - head of school??) and get the curriculum changed.

I remember being in first grade which comes after kindergarten in America, aged 5.5 and learning to read properly, doing similar things as your daughter is being expected to do at only 4.5. In my class there was also a 'special reading group'.

Forget about the Bays clutch!

Ridiculous and I hope that she hasn't caught on to what they are saying. I still remember my teacher undermining me about telling the time when I was in primary school.

I cleared out my late parent's home recently and found that my mother had kept all my old school books. I had beautiful clear joined up italic writing when I was about 7. The teacher told me that I was too young to do that and must unjoin it until I was older. I have never written properly since.

I think you need a Bays Clutch to console you too.

PS - I don't think my teachers taught me to read. It was my mother and me that did that and at a very early age.

My youngest is 4 yrs 4 months (October birthday) so hasn't started school yet. Can maybe recognise letter sounds but wouldn't recognise them as written letters at all. It sounds like they are piling on the pressure a bit for a reception class. I'm not doing a darn thing with my little lad- cripes at 4years they should be playing mostly!!!! I assume your daughter is one of the youngest in the class.
I think you should have a word with the teacher and make sure the pressure/ negativity isn't being conveyed to your daughter in the classroom. As a parent all you can do is practice reading/ letters at home and try to make it fun. My 7year olds sometimes don't want to read and alot of the time i don't push it, then when they show an interest and want to do it it's fun rather than a battle.
A bag won't help
Hugs

Just noticed you comment about handwriting- crikey that is rediculous- most 4 year olds are only just working out how to hold a pencil properly- my twins couldn't even write their names prior to starting school but are now both doing just fine!

Do we have any teachers on the forum??????????????

Thanks for your kind words and support everyone. TBH I don't feel inclined to speak to the teacher just yet as Leah isn't worried about anything (yet) and to keep working with her whenever she is willing. DH and I have already had a couple of run ins with the teacher (each) because of other incidents - eg on Monday Leah was upset because the teaching assistant said someone had wet their pants and left them on the floor in the toilets. She then somehow found out it was Leah, said Leah had no pants on under her tights and made her put a spare pair on. Leah had no idea what was going on. When I spoke to her on the evening it turned out that she had dropped her spare pants out of her bag without realising and it was those on the floor - a little damp because the floor was wet. She was then given a fresh pair to put on without the TA checking that she had some on (because of course rules stipulate they can't touch the kids or help them to get dressed) and had to get her tights off, change into fresh pants and put her tights back on and she had no idea why. DH had words about that one and suggested that they check what has happened without jumping to conclusions. This woman has no common sense!

^^That's awful! Your poor DD. It doesn't take much to show a little consideration, especially for children, but it sounds like the teacher and assistant are seriously lacking in it!

Ooooh a new chat thread. Morning all. There's an office move going on at work so I'm working from home (aka known as chatting to you all!).

Kroquet - sorry to hear about your surgery. Sending you lots of good wishes across the pond. xxx

Bluecat - It's really hard when it's your little one having issues at school. I'd have a word & get it sorted now.

My jet lag must have kicked in as there I was this morning having a cuppa in my nightie when the doorbell rang & it was the chap come to clean my carpets! Aaaagh, I don't know who was more shocked, me or him.

Black Ant is about to be packed up to go back to Mulberry as he's faulty. Trouble is, it's turned my thoughts to a new bag & bag lust has kicked in, hard.

LOL SJ! Did you and the carpet guy exchange the same shocked look?!

Too bad about black Ant, but more importantly, what bag have you got your eye on? Or do you need talking into something you haven't thought of yet?

^^There was quite a lot of me on show, poor man....

I have no idea what I'd like but just have the urge to add something new to my gang. Ocean Roxy A4 tote is turning out to be my work bag so I've deduced that I want something girly, luxurious & glam. It won't be pink but has to be colourful.

I want to enjoy the hunt, the fun of weighing up the possible choices & the anticipation of getting the one I decide on, rather than just popping down to Shepton & picking something up. I need a Mulberry fix!

Wow, this is going to be exciting! I'm excited for you just thinking about it!

I can't think of any particular bag that would fit your criteria so can't be much help. Can't wait to hear what you find though. I'm sure it will be a stunner!

Brainwave!!! What about the Joni in pistachio like the one you found for Jenova? You said it nearly came home with you - what stopped you?

Joni in pistachio was gorgeous but I'm not really comfortable with messengers. I may replace Ant at some stage purely for practical reasons but shoulder bags are far more me.
I saw the Shimmy hobo at T3 and didn't like it but I'm leaning towards a hobo style or a slouchy summer bag. I like the Poppy in the neutrals but I'm still not sure I can get on with all the fiddly bits on it & the compartments.
Ooooh, this is the fun bit....

What about the Mabel hobo? It looks really slouchy and you already like the Mabel style.... It only comes in Champagne at the moment though.
