Wow, they really are similar. I have the conker sbs but I had no idea the colour was so close to BF, which I have seen in quite a few shops now, most recently in Edinburgh on Tuesday. They also had the ostrich BF bays but it was high up on a shelf away from sticky fingers.

I would love the black forest bays, it's number 1 on my wish list. Moo, if you're still around, what is your opinion on the leather? Is it quite robust or would you say it will need really careful handling? I'm very careful with my sbs and would like to think if I get another red bag I would be able to use it lots. Your two look so beautiful together.

Hi SMN,

I have a couple of bays in the soft matte and whilst I wouldn't describe it as robust, I think it needs less babying than the grainy lambskin. Give it a good Collonilling then a regular top up and it should be fine. It is my favourite leather as it gives really intense colours.....

Thank you! Yes, colour-wise I have nothing to worry about...I didn't miss out.

Do you expect the black forrest will survive water marks despite its dark colour even after being sprayed? I just want this 1 so bad but terrified it'll get ruined by the rain!

As long as you treat it to a couple of coats of Collonil to start with and then treat regularly it should be fine. Myself and a lot of the other forum ladies always carry an emergency polythene bag on the off chance there is a real downpour - at least that way you can slip your bag inside it...

The conker is the most fantastic, versatile colour - my conker Alexa worked so well with winter outfits but also looks great with most of my summer stuff (not that I've worn my summer clothes very often...)
I put my conker bag next to a black forest Del ray and the colour is very similar although the conker is slightly richer. You may get a pre-loved conker bag on ebay if you keep your eyes open and none of the black forest styles appeal!

Wow, they are very similar indeed o: I was expecting the Black Forest to be so red, the colour on the M website looks as though it has a more of a pinkish/purple tone to it? I think I probably need to go and have a look in real life :)

For the purpose of research have just voisited M and put my conker Alexa next to the new Black Forest bags in the same leather - can confirm that the colours are virtually identical! x

I just bought a black forest Bays yesterday. Here's a picture of it, but with the flash on it it looks more red, whereas when I look at it in my apartment it appears darker with more brown tones, looks like a true burgundy to me.

Will the leather on the BF Bays slouch a bit? I'm thinking of getting one but I prefer my Bays to be structured.

hi Steph, I asked exactly this question of the SA yesterday. She thought that the BF wold hold its shape better than my NVT oak, but that the petrol blue Bays would be stiffest of them all!

I may have to get black forest after all now that I have got over my shock that it is more reddish brown and not deep burgundy!
