Warning to all Ebay shoppers! Just received a Smithfield bag from this seller http://myworld.ebay.com/*the*luxurybaglady/, it is a complete fake (with plastic-like "leather", "waterSPOT" spray in care card and all... The seller seems to be willing to refund but let's see.
I'm stunned as the seller has been doing business for several years (selling lots of Mulberries) and has no neg feedback on fakes

Sorry to hear about your Smithfield. Fingers crossed the seller refunds you as promised. Just wanted to comment on the spelling of waterstop on the care card. You aroused my curiosity, so have just checked all my cards - and the can! Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that a couple of my cards also use the spelling 'waterspot', rather than 'waterstop'. And these bags have come either fom Bicester, or Mulberry stand alone stores In fact out of my two Bicester bags - one has 'waterstop', and the other has 'waterspot' Weird huh? If I ever sell, I hope no one thinks my bags are fake!!! ![]() Edited to add - Interesting seller response griddle! Doesn't exactly inspire confidence!! |

Griddlebone, thanks for the link to the tool - I wasn't aware that such existed. If only I had seen that feedback before buying...
Alycat, that's really interesting info about the care cards. In Ebay I've seen one article/guideline about how to spot a fake, and it lists the misspelled Collonil there as one of the signs. Anyhow, at first glance I saw that the bag wasn't real because of the leather. At home, I did some comparisons to my Emmy which is also darwin and the "Smithfield" is a lot lighter in weight, shinier, smells of plastic, thinner in material and does not mark easily with a nail like the real darwin leather. Also, the "Smithfield"'s dustbag, brass ID disk and Mulberry tree logos in the logo tag and some of the brass studs are different from the real ones. I opened a dispute in Ebay today, let's see what happens. It's a bit of a chicken and an egg situation as the seller insists on me returning the bag before she will refund, but I don't know what guarantee do I have of getting any refund after I have returned the bag so I'd like to get the refund first. Do you guys have experience of similar situations, would you return before getting the refund? I'd just like to resolve the situation but I'm not sure what's the right thing to do here. |

![]() PS- tempting though it might be, try and refrain from leaving her f/back until you have this resolved. At least it still gives you a little room to manoevre. Fingers crossed for you. I'm sure it will work out

Minahan, I think you should email ebay help and Paypal help, if that's how you paid, and explain the situation to them and ask them what you should do in these circumstances.
You could also post a question on the community helpboards, but it would be preferable to use a different ID rather than ask under your own. Maybe there's someone who could ask the question for you on the boards. You're not returning the bag because you don't like it (well, you don't, but that's not the main reason!) but because it's a fake. "Significantly not as described" Is there any Mulberry stockist you can take it to to have it authenticated as a fake? I think you'll have to return it but wait until you've heard from ebay/Paypal. When you do make sure you use whatever method your country has that will track the item right to the seller's address and obtain a signature for proof of delivery. What's this vero thing that ebay keep mentioning? Is it possible to contact them about this? Good luck. |

Threaten to report her to the police as it's a criminal offence to sell fakes... that should do the trick

I'd agree with griddle! I don't really think you can trust someone who lies and sells fakes to refund you once they have the bag back after all the bag is your proof. Just ask for a full refund then once you have it they can do whatever they want with their NASTY FAKE bag. And if you do decide to return it before receiving a refund send it SPECIAL delivery- NOT recorded.
Half the time the signature for recorded doesnt even get logged by RM so there goes your proof of delivery for paypal and if the bag goes missing there's no way you'll get a refund from the seller plus the max compensation you can get through RM for recorded is £34. |
