I'll go first--my total handbag and accessories collection so far is a little less than 2% of our gross household annual salary (mine and DH's full-time salary only, no extras like child support, trust fund, etc...)

P.S. The price I used was the price that I bought them at, no appreciation/depreciation factored in.

Is this gross of after-tax salary??....Let's see, using gross, mine is at about 4%-5%. And it is going to stay that way for a while....

But I have a question...this collection might be amassed in a short time, or it might be over several years. Handbag prices are rising much faster than our salaries. So this percentage will be skewed lower for people who had collections purchased 2-3 years ago vs people who recently started to collect.

My collection is 1% of our household income.

I used gross before tax, but using either is fine.

Handbag prices (esp. Chanel) keep rising, and I know some people have been collecting for 20 years and some people have been collecting for 2 months. So let's add that in there too...the percentage and how long you've been collecting.

So, mine is still less than 2%, and my first LV was bought Dec. '03.

The reason I started this thread was because currently my collection is tiny, but I want to add more to it eventually. So I wanted to get an average % of TPFer's collections.

I think my collection is roughly 10 to 12 percent of our gross household income. But I have been collecting for many years and I still have a lot of my early handbags. If I had sold them, or given them away, I would not have included their cost into my total, which would have made the percentage smaller. So your cost can get skewed that way, too.

I graduated from college less than two years ago... my bag collection is mostly from when I had the benefit of my parents' money and summer internships... my total bag collection is roughly 10% of my annual salary.

24% After lots of selling of older purchases and replacing with newer styles my current collection is approx. 32 bags Hermes, Chanel, Fendi, Gucci, Vuitton, Devi Kroell...all are pretty much keepers at this point...I have one more bag in mind that that I'd like to have but I'll sell some others to help finance it. I started my collection in 2003 I believe (after I bought my home I felt entitled to splurge). I have the equivalent of a very very nice luxury car in my closet (scary!)

eeps. 33% for me-- amassed over 3 years and includes handbags and shoes. I haven't purchased a handbag in a while though. Sounds bad haha.

I suck at math and I hope I calculated this right. I got one-half of one percent of what I estimate our household salary to be as far as what my bags are worth.
