In the 7 figures range in various accounts, and in the 7 figures in property (but is mortgaged). Am 52, but DH is in finance and he is very good at what he does. Thank goodness, if it were handled by me, I wouldn't have a pot to pi$$ in, as the saying goes!

I think you're doing great. I know a few people who are in there late 20s that have nothing saved at all. They start making money after college and can't handle it well. They spend spend spend.
wow your doing good!

I'm 22 and have about 3k in the bank, and no 401k because I'm a student and haven't stayed at one job long enough to really get into setting one up. I know when I finish school and get a "real job" that I will start contributing to my 401k, but until that time, I just put everything into an ING account. My parents pay for my school and I currently have NO debt, but, I'm about to take out a 20k studnet loan in the next few months. After shcool I'd like to purchase a home with money I know my parents will lend me, so I probably won't start activly saving until my 30's or 40's. My dad is 44 and JUST set up his 401k last year, so, I'm not worried about saving for retirement. I plan on working until I can't work no more LOL!

Savings Account (currently mostly tied up in CDs) = $X.
Checking Account = .1X (I keep very little in my checking, for whatever reason... it really should be more)

2X --> Roth IRA (have been contributing for years despite being 24)
.25X--> 401K

These are very approximate numbers, especially given how much the stock market as fluctuated (with regards to the 401K and Roth IRA)

I just checked my retirement accounts because I'm rolling over my 401k...I've lost almost half my money. Among savings, IRA, and 401k, I've got less than $40,000

Wow. Everyone is so good with their finances. I am 24 and I have about $20,000 in debt (student loans & consumer debt <- most charged while I was in college) with a savings of $2,500. I've put a halt on my savings since right now I am tackling my debt with full force.

Age: 27
Retirement 401K: $10,000
Regular emergency savings (ING): $6,000

So that's basically it. I feel like I suck. But, maybe I don't? I am maxing my 401k.

If anyone has any tips for people in their 20s(since i know there are a lot of lades in their 30s or 40s on here) I'd love it.

yeah no, thats alot. a lot more than what i have. a lot.

i have 100k in student loans and credit charged while i was in grad school to pay bills. and unemployed. so if i were you i would count blessings.

I'm 30.

I have about $3,000 in savings
$20,000 +/- (it changes to frequently!) in my 401k
$6,000 in living/emergency fund

DH has about the same, a bit more in savings.

We have about 16% equity in our home

We bought our house last year and 2008 was a money suck. 2009 is all about building back up our savings.

My advice is to get into entrepreneurship, and to get into it now. ask yourself, what do you love doing? then ask yourself how you can make money off it, and how you can make money as soon as possible. and it's going to be hard, i've had my ups and downs in what i'm doing, and i still am nowhere close to where i want to be. but every day it gets better, and it's a game i'm going to try to win until the end
I always find inspiration in your posts. I am at the beginning stage of a new venture, a risk I feel certain will succeed.
Thank you for your positive and realistic comments.

Well I'm not entirely comfortable sharing exact figures, but it's not much yet. DH and I do not have an emergency fund yet, just regular savings account. That money would definitely last us if we had an emergency for a few months though.

Also I have a simple IRA that my part-time job offered me that just started this last paycheck. DH and I also both are automatically enrolled in the state's retirement program. We are in our early 20s.

Age 22

savings about 55k, but I own a few condos too.
I got into real estate right out of high school and it was still booming then so I did good. And with the foreclosures I was able to flip a few and grab a few to rent.

I also have my own commercial cleaning business which is slowish now but hopefully it will pick up soon!

One other thing that might add to it is Im really cheap and feel guilty about spending money.

Retirement fund is at $0, I really havent started one, IDK what Im waiting for?

wow - I'm really impressed by everyone!

I'm 23 and my net worth is less than zero =( I thought I was the norm!

I got racked up with debt through college, moving, taking unpaid internships, and pure shopping... Apart from that I have about a couple thousand in savings overseas, a little more than $1k in my 401k and nearly 10k in emergency funds.
