I haven't watched all of last night's show, but was amazed at the 21 y.o. girl who said she'd gotten a credit card at age 18 and didn't realize she had to pay the money back. How can anyone possibly be that stupid???? Suze treated her with respect, but I didn't understand how they both kept talking about that $400 figure. The girl had said she got a card with a $400 limit and maxed it out immediately 3 years ago, and now she's getting collections calls or letters (can't remember which) because she didn't realize she needed to pay the money back. With late payments and interest accrual during those 3 years, I'd expect the balance to be at more like $1500-2000 at this point.

Suze gave talk about how parents need to teach their children about finances, and I agree. However, does an 18 year old really need to be told that banks expect them to pay back what they put on a credit card??? This just blows me away!

I personally think that the Suze show is more for people who already have the high incomes and most featured are in the top 10 percent in the USA of those who live better than most of the world can only dream of living. We live in a rural area in New England that has been hit hard by job losses and our family lost our retirement a few years ago so we probably fit with other 90 percent of the world that is not ever gonna be featured on the Suze show. I don't have benefits at my job and DH is working his butt off trying to keep his business going. Haven't seen the Dave Ramesy show myself, but I do think he probably appeals more to the masses than Suze. Oh yeah...DH doesn't like Suze either...feels the show is a complete waste of time and doesn't apply to our lives...
I wish she would take more calls from all ranges of income. But what can she tell someone who has a job where every penny goes towards paying rent/mortgage, groceries and keeping the car running? "I'm sorry my dear, but you are going to have to work forever with no hope of retirement. The 'American Dream' just isn't for you!"

I also wonder if it is this economy? I think there were a lot of middle class people out there living an upper middle class lifestyle, who are now finding themselves in debt and in trouble... so maybe the show is fielding more calls from them? It's harder to feel sorry for the people who dug their own hole.

This week's show was a complete dud for me. Between a pro footballer with so much in the bank she had to tell him he needed to diversify banks because he was over the FDIC limit, and a 21 yo who didn't know she had to pay back what she charged on credit cards (seriously, is ANYone that moronic? It almost seemed fake.) I got nothing out of this show. Can we see some average middle class Joes????

I only saw the tail-end of that episode and found, for the first time, Suze to be kind of annoying. I like her a lot better on Oprah. Does she always have cheerleaders for the "Can You Afford It" segment?

Florasun, I agree, would be nice if she diversified her calls a little bit, to include folks from all walks of life. It was hard to identify with the football couple she had on last night - how many people in the general public can relate to a huge income for 3 or so years at a young age, and have ANY interest in how to manage that situation?

I was shocked by that girl too. Even though I agree that parents need to educate their kids on financial matters, at 18 you should know that you need to read the Terms and Agreements of things like credit cards. They don't give you that piece of paper for no reason. I read through the entire terms and agreements on my two credit cards. It was boring and dry, but I considered it my responsibility to make sure I am thoroughly educated about any financial decisions I make. I wonder what she though when she received the bill from the credit card?

IntlSet, she normally does not have cheerleaders on the show.

Overall, I didn't like this one. It was boring and I was disappointed that she couldn't do the e-mail segment at the end.

I just watched the last half of this week's show, and it was a dud for me. I have no interest in the sports/football angle of the show, and the cheerleaders were almost depressing. I don't know how they managed it, but every time they appeared it seemed like a downer in the context of the show.

I've been very disappointed in Suze's last 2 shows, and for the most part I can't pinpoint exactly why. I generally love her show, and always learn a thing or two.

I was surprised that Suze made the mistake, while talking to the Braves player, of saying a Roth IRA is funded with money you've "never paid taxes on", and expected to see her correct herself later in the show, but she didn't. I take her on her word when she's explaining financial vehicles, and this eroded her credibility.

I have one petty gripe that's consistent with her shows - each time I watch it I feel like I need to make an appointment to see an optometrist. I don't know if it's at Suze's insistence, or if it's a producer's/director's decision, but they have her so blurred out that I find myself trying to blink away the blur. I assume this is done so viewers can't see her wrinkles. This seems incongruous with her teachings of being self-confident and truthful. Is she ashamed that she's aging? Is that something to be ashamed about? Of course everyone wants to look their best, but when it's so obvious that she's been blurred, it's not fooling anyone! I find it a little distracting and would just like to see a clear, crisp picture.

^^^ had to laugh at 'blurring.'
You will see more of this, HDTV can be brutal.
If you watch 'House,' they 'blur' the back of his head, I'm guessing there is a bald spot. lol

I also thought the show with the pro football player and clueless 21-year-old was completely lame. One of her worst ones, I think. Even the "Can I Afford It" segments were boring.

Bring back the woman who has the million dollar house and $230K in CC debt! She was much more entertaining.

Agreed. My dh and I are both highly educated individuals who work in higher education. We take home nowhere near that amount.

I think on some level, I don't believe that she didn't realize you had to pay it back. I was surprised Suze didn't slam her more. I think before it got to that high of a balance, the credit card company would have written it off and sent it to collections. I don't know (maybe you guys can correct me) if you are charged a late fee if you don't pay the bill at all, maybe just interest?

No, and that was seriously stupid!

I caught that mistake too. I did learn something valuable on that show. We can't do the IRA's due to the AGI restrictions and now I learned a way that we can. (Although ironically, now we can't afford to). Hahah
