My first CC at 19 was a $1000 limit, then over the years it increased to $5000, then $10,000.. now at 24 its $15,000.

I NEVER spend that much, Im not sure how they got my CC limit up that high. I always pay my bills on time.

When I got my card I was approved for $9000 and I dropped it down to $500. Then I raised it to $1000 because I paid for everything on my CC to get points.

I put all my bills and my groceries and purchases on my card which is paid off in full before the bill even gets here.

Just because the limit is that high doesn't mean you have to spend that much

My first CC @ 18 was $1000 limit... which was really good for my age b/c it wasn't too little and wasn't too much. I'm about 10 years older now and I have a few more cards. I don't know for sure what my total credit limit is on all of them, but I would guess it's around the $30K range. I was responsible w/ my credit as a young adult and paid all my bills on time, which is why my limits went up. I don't even use them anymore... I have one that I use for normal purchases and I pay it off before the end of the cycle though. I would never dream of maxing out all my cards... I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

I forgot to add, that I'm 19. Not that it matters though.

I was 22 when I got my first credit card, which provided me with a limit of $800. I am now 27 and have 2 credit cards, the credit limit for one is $550 and the other is $1000... which makes me nervous because I'm tempted to buy an LV every day but I only use it for high bills and such

I agree on that your friend wants her limit raised in order to spend more, which could be a problem if your friend is not earning at least twice as much as the credit limit (a girl's gotta eat and pay bills right?). I would advice your friend to wait on that

I got my first one when I was 19 and the limit was $500. But a couple of times I went over a bit, like $10 (and paid it off straight away before I even got the bill) so they increased it to $1000. That has worked out great for me-the only time I had any issues was when I was on vacation and the hotel didn't tell me they were going to put a $750 "hold" on my card...I ended up having to use my parent's CC and writing a cheque to them when I got home :S

my college junior son has a $450 limit - it's a first credit card for college students type thing. it is fine except when he buys books every semester. he is an engineering student and those texts are expen$ive so we buy them online with his dad's cc. the books' total every semester is above his credit limit. other than that it's fine for his needs.
