Default Soo angry!!!

I just got my estimate back from my fire insurance (we lost out house in October due to a fire) and they marked all my coach bags as depreciated value!!!! I had over 20 of them from canvas, leather, to siggy. All water/ smoke damage! I am beyond upset! They marked my very first Lily xl down to like $150.00. When I got her retail. At first they laughed at the aspect of my handbags costing so much. So then I got down to the knitty gritty with them about everything, bags, shoes, clothes, to table ware!!!

I know this sounds silly and I thank the stars we were not even home and I'm lucky enough to be building my new home but my god this is just going up my rear end!

WTF? $150 for a Lily??? If you find comparable listings on eBay will they pay you replacement value????

REMINDER: get additional coverage for my bags.

I have up to a year and just show receipts and they issue a check for full value of all things replaced! Hubby just informed me of this. I am feeling much better now.

I am so sorry to hear about that fire. I couldnt imagine. I do think about sometimes if God forbid there was a fire, what I would take if I had to sweep through the house...I would push the plastic tote wth all my out of the window and grab my photo albums on the way out. And maybe some clothes! Insurance companies arent known for being the most understanding when it comes to things like that....I can totally understand you being so upset...I really hope it all works out for you.

Just a word of advice -- change your Homeowners policy to an actual replacement cost policy for the personal property. We sell both types. In my 8 years, I have never and will never sell a policy that pays on a depreciated basis. The replacement cost will cost a tad more, but not by much and will be well worth it.

Hopefully you can get this worked out with them and get your babies replaced!

Even w/your receipts? That stinks! Sorry about the fire. I don't much about how the insurance bus. works when it comes to this....

I know that we were advised to take pics of everything in the house of value, and cost, etc.. and saved all receipts.
hopefully it will all work out!

OMG, I am SO sorry to hear about your fire!! I cannot imagine what you went through!! Fire is one thing I'm terrified about! Thank god you were not home, and yes material items can mostly be replaced, but WOW, that is such a horrible thing!! I am so sorry you had to go through this, and are still going through this!!!

This a wake up call to me...I definitely need to make sure we are covered properly!! Thanks for sharing this, and I hope everything straightens out for you soon!!!

I can't imagine all you've went through but I know these things can happen so easily! I've seen neighbor's houses catch afire. Whoooo, that's scary. I'll have to ask DH what kind of fire insurance we have, I don't even know! I can't believe they treat you like your bags aren't worth much, don't they know about today's designer bags? Even my dad who passed away in his late 70's knew what most everything was worth because he watched the Price is Right. (There's no Coach on that show, though.)

I can't believe that this also happened to you. We had a massive fire destroy our house the summer before last. We lost everything. We were home and we were sleeping and I woke up at 5:00 am and it was really smoky. I went down towards my son's room and the whole back of the house was on fire. I yelled down to my husband that our house was on fire and he ran down and we got both kids and our dog out. We were VERY VREY lucky and blessed that we lived and everything we lost was just stuff. I can't tell you how something like this really puts things in to perspective. I absolutely love my purses and had 9 Louis Vuitton, 3 Gucci, 3 Prada, 4 Burberry, 4 Dooney and Bourke and 8 Coach bags....lost them all and even though we did have replacement cost insurance you never get back what you lost. The process with the insurance company is absolutely unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!! It took us a full year to rebuild our house and talk about stressfull!!! We just moved back in right before school started this year. It is absolutely something you wouldn't wish on anyone. Yes, the house we had built is absolutely gorgeous (but so was our house) and you won't believe how many people will say "Oh, I hope we have a fire so we can get a new house" They have no idea how insensitive and awful that is. I would trade my new house for our original house and everything we had before the fire any day. Our fire started in the wall between the kitchen and dining room and went up the wall in to my son's room, then in to the attic and swept across the whole house. So...I really feel your pain and wish you the best. I, for one, know what you are going through and what you are dealing with. Good Luck and I know you know this but living through this is the biggest gift of all.

Are you serious?!?!? People actually say that to you?!?!?! OMG, I can't believe how *hitty some people are!!! I'm so sorry you also had to go through this...I simply can't imagine!!

What happened?? Was it faulty wiring?? I'm always paranoid about stuff, and hearing these stories makes me even more paranoid!

Yes, it was the wiring in the wall between the dining room and the kitchen. The fire inspector said it was just a fluke thing the way the house settled and the wires crossed. I always worry about stuff like that and it is so surreal that it happened to us. People have no idea what it is like when they let you go through what is left of your house....seeing all of you daughters American Girl dolls in the ashes and your son's bed, where he was sound a sleep a few hours earlier, all charred and the whole roof caved in on it. I was more upset about losing my kids baby books than my purses. And, YES>>>YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE HOW MANY PEOPLE THINK WE ARE LUCKY because we got a new house, new furniture and everything from this. We didn't even have a toothbrush or any clothes! That night, the day of the fire, I had to go to Kohls, in a complete daze, and buy underwear, and clothes just so we'd have something to wear. Then I went to Target and bought toothbrushes, hairbrushes, shampoo, everything you need to live!!!! We didn't get a penny from the insurance company until about 8 months after the fire. We had to front all of that money by ourselves! I don't know how most people could do that!!!! You also really learn and see who your friends are! There are those who came and helped you go through the ashes and then there are those, who you thought were your closest friends, who never came over to help or be there for us. You really really learn a lot about life, and people when something like this happens. Thanks so much for your sincere thoughts. I still appreciate compassionate people like you.

I can totally relate. My house was flood as a result of Hurricane Katrina and it can be insulting to deal with the insurance companies. I was laughed at when I asked if I could claim my clothing, shoes and of course all of my handbags that were soaking wet and covered in mold. I though flood insurance was for everything in my house but the adjuster acted like I was idot to even bring up those things when he inspected the house. I learned a very big lesson to have replacement coverage otherwise you don't get much $$$ towards replacing everything that was destroyed. You can be surprise how much stuff you have in your house.

Sound like at least you have replacement coverage... it is just such a pain to have to deal with.
