Today was a productive day. DH and the kids went over to a relative's house, so I stayed behind to catch up on some chores. Besides the routine chores, I cleared out the part of the garage that was just a pit. With everything cleaned up and sorted, I now have 4-5 bags for donation, and have set aside a bunch of items I'm going to return.

Goals for Nov:
1) Pay annual car registration. Ugh.
2) Pay property taxes. Double ugh.
3) Obtain flood insurance. Triple ugh.
4) Enjoy our wedding anniversary in Monterey (I'm even ordering a replica of our original wedding cake. I know, I'm silly, but it was damn good cake! LOL!)
5) Plan out of town trip to Russian River with in laws

4) Make a detailed budget for Xmas shopping
Money for the mortgage prepayment has been set aside. 1 down, 3 to go!

Last year I didn't stick to a budget at christmas. I did however write down what we spent on each person. Last night was the first time I ever added it up . It came to a total of 2397.30. This year I would like to bring it down to about 1500. if possible. This may look like a decent amount but I have more then twenty people to buy for,not including teacher gifts, mail lady, bus drivers, coaches ,etc. I need some suggestions of good inexpensive gifts that are not gift cards?

I am so glad we're not going Christmas this year! Too stressful! I might do Christmas cards this year though, and maybe pick something up for my Dad while we're on vacation...he loves Native American art, and I might get something similar down in Mexico around the Mayan ruins.

Cooney: For inexpensive gifts, why not bake for the teacher, mail lady, bus drivers, etc.? People love baked goods and it's a gift from the heart rather than from the wallet.

^^^^^ On that note I am also doing some hommade gifts this year. I made cookie dough and all kinds of hot chocolate. They were great gifts to give my work colleagues. For the rest of my family they are all gift card people so that will be easy. My DS is also at that age where he would rather pick out his own gifts.

I'm going to also add to my Nov. Goals:

1) Put $1000.00 towards student loan - I just did this yesterday!
2) Make a budget of about $500-$600 for Christmas gifts (I only have to buy for 5 people this year)
3) No shopping for myself!!
4) Continue to save for my down payment and start organizing receipts, statements, etc for TAX time... normally I wait till last minute, but everything is so disorganized that if I get organized now I think I'll feel a lot better.

I got my Dad's XMas gift today and so far I am right on budget. I only have my 5 girlfriends and my friend's daughter left. I am planning on getting the gals some stuff from Sephora so I might place an order this week.

Ladies, I'm just putting it out there but what kind of stuff do you guys sell to pay down your debt or for extra cash?

I feel like I have an overload of "stuff"... clothing mostly. But I feel like it isn't really worth selling or who would want to buy my old/worn clothing? Do you just put your stuff up on craigslist or do you ebay? I tried ebay in the past but ended up paying more in listing fee's than anything...

I have sold mostly purses, wallets, sunglasses and occassionally jewelery. Clothes have never sold for me so I just donate them.

I'm always selling stuff, I made $550 on eBay this weekend (although I was hoping to make a lot more). I sold bags, a Juicy Couture cashmere hoodie, Thomas Wylde scarf, shoes and jewelry.

I've done pretty well with clothes on Ebay; designer jeans mostly, some high-end sweaters/blazers.

A few months ago, our waste management company implemented a food scrap program where you place your food scraps and other food related waste in the yard waste bin. Coupled that with our children finally potty training and we are producing less garbage nowadays.

So I called our waste management company today to swap out our higher capacity garbage bin for a smaller one and our savings per month will be $12/month. Doesn't sound like much but when you tally it over the course of a year, that's $144 saved per year! Yay!
