Default Credit card compromised?

I used my debit/credit card to pay for my doctor's appointment today, and it went through as a credit card payment. However, when I looked at the receipt to sign it, it had my whole credit card number on it, not just the last four digits with the others X'd out as is customary. I signed it and gave it back.

I'm feeling uncomfortable about this as this card is directly linked to my checking account. Am I justified in feeling this way?

I think your feelings are completely justified. I often use my credit card at my dr.'s offices too and I've never seen the whole number printed on my receipt.

I will say, though, that my dermatologist made us sign a form and give her a credit card number to be kept on file so that she can bill the credit card immediately for any balance the insurance doesn't pay. I don't like that policy and it raises the same confidentiality issues as your situation does.

This is no worse than when they used to use carbons. Just keep a close eye on your bank account and don't worry about it. You might want to mention it to the doctor's office, however, they probably didn't even realize that it was set up that way.

I wouldnt worry about it. How many times do we give our cc to a waitress/server and they walk away from us with it? we dont worry about that do we? how many times do you give your CC number to NM online, or for stuff you order online. Just watch your statements carefully.

I would say it is justified. Although I have credit cards, I do not use them as I use my debit card for most of my transactions. I was advised a week ago that my card was compromised; however, the bank froze the account and issued me a temporary card until my new one arrives. Although most banks are quick to react, we should always be extra careful....

I learned that some debit/credit machine receipts don't always hide some of the cc numbers. The best thing is to always shred your receipts even if its from a fast food place ect..

If you look at your info sheet given out at the pharmacy sometime it contains your name, address, phone number and birthday.

I don't think you have to worry but be aware.

If you're really worried, you can place a 90 day fraud alert on your credit report with the credit bureaus.
