Default Coin Laundry

I am trying to figure out which method would be better for me, because I never had to use a coin laundry machine before. I find that one wash does not do a proper job, but when I used to live at home, I found that the machine did not rinse well, so I do one more rinse.

What I am trying to figure out is, what is the best way to save to deposit coins to get your laundry done?
Normally I would deposit my coins at the bank so I can try to collect every single bit of interest that I can get.
  • Would you just save all your change from you wallet?
  • Would you go to the bank and ask them to give you a fair amount of change? Then your change in your wallet will be used for small purchases like coffee or something.
Does anyone have a better idea?

the machines in one of our complexes use cards. you pay in advance to "load" the card like a gift card, then use it on the machine.

i didn't know they still used coins.

guess it has been a long time since i have been in a laundrymat

Our building uses coin laundry. Since there are two of us and we rarely use cash, I find that just relying on the quarters that end up in our wallets from cash purchases leaves us short. Usually I go to the bank and get rolls of quarters. That way, you don't have to worry about it!

I would probably just buy a roll of quarters from the bank. Maybe calculate what you will spend in a month on laundry and then pull that out every month!

That is what we did every month until we moved to a new apt. and bought our own W/D...yay for apt. hookups!

It really saves money to have your own, but if that is not possible, get rolls from the bank and put in a convenient place.

when i use to use the coin machines @ my old apt complex, i found myself being short one or two times. things like this bug me so everytime that i knew i was going to do laundry, i would have a few extra dollars of quarters ready.

When I lived in FL I would take my laundry to a place and have it washed and come back and pick it up and pay with my debit card.

I really like your suggestion, because there was one time when I was short with quarter.

This method will probably help me keep track of my laundry expense a lot better.

Thank you!

i use to just go the grocery store when i was about to wash and get my change from customer service...$10 for a roll of quarters. i also had the m&m's mini tubes to keep my quarters in. i think they have them in two sizes. its the perferct size.

That is so cute!
Today, I was talking to my bf and told him that I prefer to withdraw from the bank certain amount of coins for laundry.
He thinks there is no need, because he always gets lots of coins and don't like them.

I still like twiggers idea...should I just use all my bf coins? Or take his and use it to buy coffee on my way to work?

I had coin laundry in an apartment I lived in for three years. I hated that and am so grateful to have my house w/ my washer and dryer now!

Anyway, I did the bank thing or if it's late at night and you have singles or can get singles, I'd go to a car wash and use the change machine.

I'd just save up whatever coins you get from whatever source and then come laundry time you should have enough. Even though I don't use coins for laundry I often use them to buy soda or for parking meters. Basically, whenever I get change I just put it in my wallet or in the ashtray in my car and I'll amass a bunch pretty quickly.

I steal them from my boyfriend. He stopped complaining when he realized his underware was getting washed.
