Default Are you thinking about TAXES yet?

I used to love doing my own taxes but now that I am married, I have to let DH do it. I was going to do it but he threw a big fit. He says he 'enjoys doing it'. Fine. I will let him do it but I hate the waiting. This is his busy time of year and he usually waits forever to do it. Last year, we got a huge refund which was fabulous. But he made 2/3 of what he had made the prior year due to the fact that he works for an insurance company and they didn't pay bonuses the year of Katrina. So this year, we won't be so lucky. I am praying we get ANY refund at all. We have a huge property tax bill coming so we will need all the help we can get. What about you? What are you going to do with your refund if you get one? Do you usually get a refund? Or do you have to pay?

I have been totally stressing over taxes for more than a month now. We owed $16K because of our salaries and the fact that we have no large tax deductions (translated: we don't own a home). However, I just emailed our accountant yesterday and a bill was passed -- affectionately known as the "AMT Patch" -- so now we only owe $10K! It is such a relief!

Hopefully the AMT Patch will also affect others favorably!

I wish homeownership in Canada meant a tax break but, alas, it does not.

I would very much like to do my taxes but do not yet have all my paperwork.

We usually get money back, but I am stressing a bit this year because DH got a new job making significantly more. I am hoping we don't owe.

I haven't gotten my W2 yet, but will probably try and file as soon as possible once I receive it. I've been getting returns the past few years, so hopefully I'll be getting another one this year. If I get a substantial return, I'll most likely be buying a new bag :)

I've been thinking about it already, I wish my W2 would come. I normally never pay. I don't think I'll owe this year either, b/c I have gigantic student loan payments and that will help me out (like close to $900 a month). Also, I got my mortgage interest statement and I've paid a good bit there too, so I hope I come out w/ some money this year, even though it is an interest free loan to the government!

Oh, I'm thinking about taxes, alright, but I'm worrying that I may end up owing. I don't think I took out enough deductions this year, so I think that I may owe some money for that reason, if I'm figuring that out correctly. I'm still waiting on one of my three places of employment for the past year to send me the tax information, so when I get that I'll take it to my mom and let her figure it out for me, she always does my taxes.

^^That might get me, too.^^

But if I get a refund, the sooner the better. That's spring break money.

I'm waiting on my interest statements from my banks and W-2s before I can file. But I've done a "rough draft" of sorts (by looking at pay stubs and account statements from the past year) and if I'm correct, I'll be getting some money back.

I'm very impatient, I want to take care of this as soon as possible.

I do not care if I get money back or owe money, as long as I do not owe more than 10% of my tax obligation for the year. Why? If I underwithhold for over 10% of my total tax, I pay a penalty. To avoid this unwanted situation, I have set up an Excel spreadsheet for calculating my taxes (same set-up as the actual 1040 Form). I perform my tax estimates about 3 times a year (beginning, middle, and end of the year) to calculate the amount of withholding. I have to do these extra steps, because my adjusted gross income can fluctuate a lot depending on how much investments I sell, how much options I exercise, and etc..

By estimating and understanding my tax obligation, I can make better decision regarding when and how to sell investments. For those who are borderline in Roth IRA eligibility, the proactive calculations can help you decide how much to contribute to your per-tax 401K. By having the calculations set-up in an Excel spreadsheet, I can get your answers very easily at the touch of a button, without redoing all the math.

When a new year begins I always start to think about taxes. Unfortunately it's always a big headache for me & DH. We both make too much so our 401 k contributions are limited and we've had to owe taxes the last couple of years. Ah, but I guess that's better than giving the government too much of my money throughout the year!

I got one of my W-2's for my current job. I quit my old job in April and started this one in May. I am waiting for that one to come so I can do this. I hope I don't owe money this year, usually I get money back, but at my current job I am making more than what I used to make.

Last year I owed money because I was freelancing (which I finally just finished paying off last month) but I'm hoping to get something back this year. Unfortunately it looks like from my husband's side we may owe money because he's an independent contractor! So it'll probably end up canceling out.

I think about taxes every day of my life - ARGH. I hate them. And the fact that people who make $90,000 or more pay 90% of all income tax just makes me even crazier!
