Why doesn't Ebay penalize fake sellers other than removing their listings?
ts because ebay is a business. Businesses act in self interest. They are making TONS of money off of the sale of fakes. Think about it. They've been sued before regarding counterfeit merchandise. They have the resources to fight for themselves in court. They have the resources to have huge giveaways. They have resources to get ebay live going and many of their other programs. So it follows that they also have the resources to implement some kind of qualification process for sellers or to employ more people to scan for fakes. But they don't. Instead, they let people like us do the work Thinking that we are making a difference when really, they are allowing the ebay community to moderate itself. I mean, who's paying you to do all of this reporting?! Ladies, you're being used. Its like slapping a bandaid on a bursting dam. Look at all the sellers with 100% feedback sellling fakes! They are not going away because ebay needs them! If the buyers are happy, then ebay is happy, ebay makes money. Ebay is greedy too. Just look at the fees! No other site charges fees that high if they do at all. OY! :-/ The only way to get big businesses to move is to boycott them effectively. Don't sign in, don't report fakes, don't look at anything. Even if you report a fake and don't buy one, you are still giving them attention and buying into the notion that you can remove all the fakes and stop new ones from being posted. I would get a petition together with each persons name and screen name and each person close their account so they know you are serious. This way, they lose money, it hurts, they pay attention.

I would NEVER buy a high ticket item on ebay. My account's been closed for weeks now. Especially if its commonly counterfeited! Most sellers are college students or stay at home moms, the regular person who wants to stay at home and work. They are usually not professionals. Usually uneducated, just trying to make a buck which is a great attempt at entrepreneurship, but chances are, you won't get the best service and a return will be hard because its coming out of their pocket. Scary scary stuff depending on what they sell. Just settle for something cheaper or save the money and go to Saks, barneys, chloe, LV, what have you. Seriously.

Haha. I don't feel like its the style that matters. Its the circumstances surrounding the authentic version. That bag is so friggin exclusive. Prada wants it to be exclusive. If neiman marcus, AN AUTHRORIZED RETAILER only gets about 5 bags a month or so, and people are long wait listed, But you see a bunch on ebay, they are fake. No getting around it. They are probably great fakes that will be a pain in the ass to authenticate because no department stores have it, cant keep it around long enough to learn it, its new and nobody has experience with it yet. but if you don't mind spending a ton on a fake, get it. I doubt many people will be able to tell and they will think its awesome that you have it. Fakers do authenticity cards, boxes and everything. But please, sweetie, at least know what it is

I understand your point, however I really think ebay is starting to make some changes regarding sellers and counterfeit handbags. Some of us that report counterfeits are now given special reporting forms that are given high priority and these auctions are removed within a couple hours if not sooner.

I agree a lot more needs to be done, but its a step in the right direction.

Not all sellers are as you described. Some of us like to "rotate" our bags, use them for a while, sell them on ebay, then get new ones.

Many handbag consumers cannot afford retail prices at "Saks, barneys, etc" so look to some ebay sellers for decent pre-owned handbags.

The best advice is to search out sellers like these.

The whole premise of ebay was to match buyers and sellers, not police every auction. When a buyer "wins" an auction, they are buying from an individual , not ebay.

This sellers listings of counterfeit prada fairies were removed the same day.

Huh? She has it listed as a large Harlequin, but it's the medium. Look at that price? She also has a pink one. Fake? No mention of cards or authenticity.

Not all eBay sellers put AUTHENTIC in their listings. I never do and my listings are 150% authentic.

I'm pretty sure Julia Runway is a reseller, meaning she scoops up grail bags and sells them way over retail.

Please be careful about putting eBay listings on this thread. There's nothing worse we can do here than to damage the reputation of a legitimate eBay seller, especially when there are so many crooks on eBay that do deserve this thread.

In the future, please post any items in question on the Authenticate This thread.

Miu2,

Please educate me.

How can you tell w/ the one photo? Is this a stock photo?

Yep, I've always thought Julia Runway to be an authentic seller. Overpriced, but authentic.

I was very confused by Julia Runway's use of one photo of the purse and 5 photos of celebrities with a different purse than in the listing. My bad. I just would have thought that if she wanted to sell her purses for $600 over retail she would have included more photos and the correct dimensions of the purse.
