Default Protecting your MJs with Apple Guard rain repellent
I'm pretty sure there was a thread about this some time ago but do you spray your MJs with any sort of water repellent? I've used Apple Guard rain repellent on my white multipocket and metallic purple elise before. They are still in great shape but is there any particular leather you WOULD'T recommend using a rain repellent? I want to keep my handbags in the best shape possible for years to come

Just got a plum stam in the washed goat leather....would you spray it?

When I first bought it (before I used it) I sprayed my Washed Goat Leather stam (in Plum) with Kiwi's Water & Stain Repellent, which is what I use on all my bags -- no problems with darkening of the leather or spotting -- just kept my bag protected!

One thing I would recommend, however (and wish I had thought of beforehand) is using the For Handles Only product from lovingmybags (
http://www.lovinmybags.com/shop2.html#Anchor-38445) on the handles of the stam -- I did notice that after a while, the handles started to darken and began to form a patina (similar to what happens to Bbags and LV bags) -- it's not bad and probably isn't noticeable to most people, but I know they've changed color and wish I had thought about using that product before I started using my bag

I've used Apple Garde on my Balenciaga bags, which are also made out of goat leather. No changes with color or suppleness at all and have protected my bags beautifully.

where did you buy the Kiwi's Water & Stain Repellent? The Apple Guard rain repellent smells very strong and usually stinks up my house for a good couple of hours. The smell is very toxic to me so if Kiwi's smell better do let me know. Thanks!

I bought the Kiwi a long time ago from Walgreens (I've seen it at Ace Hardware as well) -- its where all the shoe polish and care products are -- it probably doesn't smell much better than the Apple Guard tho -- it's got an enamel smell to it & is kinda strong right after you spray it -- I usually spray it in bathroom with the window wide open -- I think most of those water repellent sprays have similar scents (my Ugg spray has a similar scent to it)

lovingmybags sells a product that supposed to work in a similar way, but it's not sold as a "water repellent" -- it's called Leather Pro-Treatment and it supposed to protect the bag from water and oils -- I don't think her products have smell as strongly as some of the other products on the market since she doesn't use all those harsh chemicals

NEW Leather PRO-Treatment
Improved protection! Protects from OIL and Water. Great for ALL leathers!! For shiny bags use in conjunction with New Shine Enhance.
Non-darkening.

I've treated all of my bags with Apple Leather Care and Apple Rain & Stain Repellent. I love these products.

Okay, so let me ask you about how to actually do this (scared newbie here)... do you just hold the bag up and spray it and then what... hold it until it dries? Do you sit it on a table and then do the bottom last? Does it need more than one coat?

How often do you treat it? Just one time?

Is it okay to put it back in the dustbag after you've done it?

What about the hardware? Do you cover it up or just wipe it after you spray it?

sel--I usually take mine outside so as not to stink up my house and get it all over. I do the whole thing at once.

Then i bring it inside and either set it on paper towels, or hang it by the handles on a door knob or similar while it dries. Let it dry for 1/2 to 1 hour before you give it a second coat (if you're going to). If not, I let it dry for a little longer before I put it back in it's dust bag.
