If I remember correctly... he said he was going to work for an airline?

I miss him too.

John you are so in the know, love ya haha. Well if he doesn't work there anymore I really wish he would come back, he was such a good member of the community, maybe he's not too much into LV though anymore though?

I have a close friend who does accounting for LVMH, Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (usually referred to as Moet Hennessy.Louis Vuitton) which is the group that owns LV. What someone posted earlier is absolutely correct. LV destroys any unsold bags rather than discount them so as to "protect" the brand. Similarly, from what I understand, only those who actually work in the LV stores get discounts, whereas the business staff does not. And from what I heard, it's only 10%-20% for them. My friend does get access to other LVMH group "friends and family" sales, like MJ, but never LV.
That's also why if you buy your bag at a select Bloomies or Saks it will never be discounted. It's part of LV's contract with the store.
The bright side is that the strict regulation of bags makes it easy to make sure they're authentic, with only one online retailer, etc.
They've been that way for decades, and it's not likely to change. In some ways I understand why they do it, but it does seem very wasteful to destroy those beautiful bags!

So someone posted in another forum that employees no longer get their LV discount. Do you guys think that's true? I would find that super crazy if they didn't even let employees benefit from working there.

It's definitely true , my sa told me about it yesterday. I find it crazy too. I know in this economy there needs to be budget cuts but surely they could have just decreased the discount, not gotten rid of it completely.

This is true, I work for a brand within the LVMH group and we do not get discount at LV. However there are employee sales for brands within the group, whether this is cosmetics or accessories.

Wow, that really stinks! So she really doesn't benefit at all from working there anymore, it's just like another job, no added perks! I wonder why they did this. It was 30%, which is still less than most other designer brands...

Wait, I'm confused. Someone on another part of the forum said only employees of like Saks and Nordstrom, etc. lost their LV discount, but actual employees of LV didn't....So confusing....

Speyta, does your sa work for LV or do they work in a department store and just get a discount at LV?

My SA told me the last time I was at the store that it's 30% on most everything.

Then several times a year they get 85% off, but she made it sound like it wasn't on bags, mainly accessories.

Mine works for Saks so yep you're probably right. I didn't think about that. Still sucks but more understandable than if the actual LV employees lost it.

So now we see why they are so mean!!!

People who never pay retail will never understand the pain of those who do.

The thing to remember is that wages for retail staff are very low and they do have to put up with a load of crap sometimes dealing with the public, so I don't grudge them their little employee perks.

^ Agreed. There are times when I am witnessing those awkward moments that employees have to face and my heart just goes out to them !
