Next time you go in, picture all of the SA's in their underwear, that should put you in the driver's seat! They're people just like everyone else. They just happen to sell a high end product. It doesn't elevate them, it just shows that they came across better during the interview than the person who came after them. Don't let anyone make you feel inferior or awkward. Hope you get your first LV soon. You'll be in LVoe!

Just ignore the mean ones and don't reward their behavior by buying things from them. Remember, they are no better than you and you are not beneath them. They are just people working in a store, it's not like it requires any great knowledge or skill. Most anybody could walk in there and probably do just as well at it with a bit of experience.

I was shopping with my DH in the store one time and this middle-age lady came in. She looked uneasy and did not dress “expensive” so the SA basically ignored her. She tried to buy a bag, but not sure which one was right for her. The SA was absolutely rude and dismissed her entirely. I did not like what I saw so I walked over and chatted to the lady. I found out that she had been saving money so she could finally treat herself to a LV bag for her birthday. She almost walked out because of the way she was treated, but she really wanted to buy a bag that day. So I asked the SA to bring out different bags so the lady could try on. The SA was resistant at first, but I just ignored her and treated her like one of my subordinates. I helped the lady pick out the perfect bag for her, something that I knew she would treasure for a long time. Afterward, the lady thanked me and told me that I should be a SA since I was so knowledgeable and helpful. I would love to be a SA, but unfortunately the store would not be able to afford me. Anyway, it made me happy for helping somebody achieving her wish that day.

Bagchic1, that was sooo sweet of you! It's horrible that the SA's treated her like she wasn't good enough. My dad owns a few businesses and sometimes I go in to work for him. I would NEVER treat a customer in such a horrible manner. I don't care who they are, I would always be respectful! Good for you, I would have done the same had I been there! I just hate rude SA's, or just rude people in general. I still refuse to go into the NM where I live, some of the SA's are the rudest people I have ever met. I just avoid the them, why should I give them my business?

Im going to have to disagree with the majority...

I can only share my experience. When I started to buy LV, I walked in for the first time with a broke down Coach bag. I was in jeans and flipflops. I received the most WONDERFUL service from a lady who is now my SA. I am sure when I walked in, she had no idea how much money I was going to spend that day. I believe I bought about 5 bags that visit and actually came back later that week and bought a few more things..so for that first sale was quite large.

...and I continue to buy from her till this day.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I usually drop by the one at Soho and they are all so friendly. They all take their time with their customers even if you're just roaming around and thinking about purchasing a bag. There are many times when my mom and I (I'm 19) carry cheap no-brand bags and they still gave excellent service. I love the SAs at Soho. I went to the one at 5th Ave and they weren't as friendly, they looked tired and busy from all the tourists. The ones at Saks are a little better.

I know you'll find an LV store with amazing SAs soon!

Normally I'd tell you not to generalize but since you've had a bad experiences with almost all the stores where you live, I really think you should file a complaint.. I haven't had a bad experience at LV over here but I did have an bad experience at MAC, I went there in desperate need of eyeliner since I ran out and the SA's rudely told me that they were closed and pulled down the metal door.. This was about an hour and a half before closing time, so I sent an email to MAC telling them that their employees are being rude.. Lo and behold, the next time I go they're all WAY nicer and actually helped me.. In my opinion, the SA's should treat customers nicely regardless of how they're dressed.. It's their job to sell products, not drive customers away..

I have noticed some rude behavior from the SA's in Cleveland and Fort Lauderdale, but they are really, really nice at the LV in Pittsburgh and Orlando IMHO.

I'm with photomama24 - I've not had horrible experiences at LV. Other places, yes, but I don't run & hide - I counter it with sarcasm.

I've told the SA's about these threads and the manager told me that they have learned through experience that the person who comes in wearing jeans & flip flops are usually the customers that can buy up the whole store. The customers who come in wearing this label & that label, this much $$ of this & that designer and come in putting on airs expecting a certain kind of service are usually the frauds (not their words). I've seen this myself and it's funny, but embarrassing for that customer as they are making a fool of themself.

Also, there was an article recently posted (MSNBC, I think?) that spoke of how customers, particularly women, are intimidated by beautiful sales people and it will stop some people from buying. A colleague recently told me how intimidated she was at certain boutiques since she can't afford most of the stuff - she opened herself to bully SAs. I'm going to feel just as entitled to shop at LV or anywhere as I am at Target.

"looked uneasy" - Looking uneasy opened herself to bully SAs. Confidence can take you far!

"I did not like what I saw so I walked over and chatted to the lady." Good for you! I've done this many times, I can't stand when this happens!

"treated her like one of my subordinates" Again, confidence! You took charge, that's all you have to do sometimes before acting like them & getting rude & nasty to the SAs.

I've walked in w a non- lv bag and wasn't mistreated. I think it depends on the sa. Some ppl shouldn't work w the public.

I'm so sorry that many of you have had such bad experiences!

I went to the Palo Alto, CA store last Wed, walked in wearing a juicy jacket, flip flops, jeans and my giraffe-printed Dooney bag, and I immediately had the sweetest SA approach me.

She was so fun! She brought out every single bag I had ever wanted to try on, and was just as excited to see me try them on as I was! (well, almost!)

Honestly, one of the best shopping experiences I have ever had. I highly recommend going to this Palo Alto store, located in Stanford Shopping Center.

The Atlanta SA's could work on their attitudes just a little bit more, but they seem to be coming along.
