Default Craigslist Scam
Hi all,

I thought I would share my experience with trying to buy a Louis Vuitton speedy from Craigslist.

This seller posted pictures of a speedy 30 with dustbag, lock & key and sales receipt. We arranged to meet in a Starbucks.

The first thing the seller showed me was a receipt from eluxury.com - she purchased a speedy 30 and mini pouch.

After a thorough inspection of the bag, it turn out to be a fake. She was not upset that I told her the bag was a fake and just asked how I know it is a fake. I explained to her certain things about the bag that is not right, and told her that if she really bought it from eluxury, she should go to the LV store to authenticate and get her money back.

I would definitely say that this bag is a grade A fake, you have to really look out for the details.

After she left, I remembered that on Craiglist, the photo of the receipt was one from the LV store and not eluxury.com.

What I concluded is that this lady bought a genuine Speedy 30 from eluxury.com and then went to get a grade A fake and do a bait and switch by showing the receipt.

When I got home, I checked on Craigslist to see if she re-post the ad and indeed she did.

So for those who want to buy on Craigslist, I would suggest that you insist that you meet at Louis Vuitton to authenticate. If the seller refuse or say they have no time, stay away.

Just remember having a legitimate receipt does not mean that the bag is real.

Hope this helps

You need to have little knowledge in order to have safe trading in craigslist or meet at louis vuitton.

I usually post my bag on craigslist if I need to sell it, and I never had problem with it.

I know that it probably makes no difference, but i almost wouldn't want to tell them. assuming this was indeed a scam, i don't think i could have tolerated being asked to explain to someone why i wasn't being fooled.

what a cheek to meet up with you to do this. glad you know your LV and thanks for letting everyone know.

CL have the option to flag posts. You should do everybody out there a favor and flag the re-listing of that item. We can assume the same fraud is used on eBay everyday as well: authentic dust bags and receipts, fake goods.

I flagged the post but the person is still doing it and I suspect there are more than 1 of them running such scams ;(

Ya, that is true but if you buy on eBay ... you can file a claim with Paypal. If you buy from a person you meet, you are paying cash ... :)

Honest sellers are more than willing to meet at Louis Vuitton to authenticate.
