Default Buying a Louis off Craigslist

Hi,

This is my first time buying from a website that isn't eLUXURY so naturally I have some concerns.

She's selling the bag for $200 below retail, claims its brand new with original receipt, tags and dust bag, and will meet me at the store to verify its authenticity.

Being a newbie, I can only think of these questions to ask -
1. why are you selling it?
2. are you the original buyer? if so, can I keep the receipt when I buy it from you?

Is there anything else I should ask?

Also: are the employee at LV allowed to verify it even though they know I'm not buying from them directly?

Also: the pics show they have blue see-through tape covering the zipper-pull, do real LV come with these? I've never seen them before.

And finally: am I expected to bargain on the price?

Thanks so much for your help with this! Hopefully this bag will bemy new baby

I personally would not do it. My dh doesn't like CL very much at all and to show up at a site prepared to pay cash for a LV is more risky.

But some people are okay with that and if you are too, then ask for pictures to be emailed to you to verify authenticity and ask all questions. When you arrive, double check authenticity again. Do bring a friend along with you and meet in a publc place.

*Just my opinion, not trying to bash Craig's List at all.

I'm also new to TPF, too. I don't do Craigslist much until recently when my hubby helped me post a few of my LV items there. You really have to be extra careful because there are some crazy people out there. In regards to the buying side, it would be a great idea to meet at the LV boutique cuz they will authenticate the items for you right there. I recall reading online that what they won't do is have it in writing. By all means, I would not recommend you meeting a stranger anywhere secluded. It wouldn't hurt to ask many questions. If they're not hiding something, then they should answer and welcome all questions. Good-luck.

I personally have bought a LV on craigslist before. The seller was very nice and understood my concerns about it being a legit. She agreed to meet up and told me it was okay if I decided not to buy it. It turned out to be a authentic great condition pochette which I scored for $100. I would say give craigslist a chance. I personally use craigslist now that fleabay has gone to hell. After having a good experience on Craigslist, I would say keep it open as an option, but as always be careful because it can be a little sketchy sometimes.

Craigslist is always a place of bargaining. Don't lowball it too much though if its the real deal and she is selling it for so low. She might turn around and sell to somebody else.

I would also recommend a friend to go with you, so in case anything you won't be alone. Since they will know that you will be carry lots of cash for your lovely LV.

good luck!

U should see if you can meet an at LV store to do the authenticating and trade. else i wouldnt' do it. The sales people can do authenticatic it, but they might be mean/ reluctant about it. you can say its a gift, and you want to know if its real.

and bargin if you can!

I've actually sold a couple of LVs through CL. I've met with the buyer whenever they request that we meet at the LV boutique for verification or if they are new to LV and are unsure of what they are getting into. I have always walked into the boutique with the buyer and shown the bag to the SA and had it verified on the spot. So far, fingers crossed, no SA has refused that service. I actually do prefer to have the buyer being comfortable knowing that they are purchasing an authentic item and get a nice CL experience. Most people on CL that are selling replicas usually state the fact that it's an imitation.

I wouldn't worry too much if she's willing to meet at the LV boutique. GOOD LUCK. Make sure that you check the bag thoroughly for cleanliness.

I've also sold a couple LVs on craigslist. I haven't lost too much money, but then I always make my price a tad higher than I would normally ask for so I'd get less low-ballers. I have seen a load of fakes but also some pretty legit bags at great prices; if the economy wasn't so s*itty right now (and if I weren't in grad school), I'd probably snag a few of them.

I think the most legit sellers are the ones who are willing to help you as much as possible and are willing to back up their product. I have always guaranteed my buyers that I will meet with them in any LV boutique for their peace of mind.

The only thing I hate about craigslist are the crazies and the low-ballers! Ugh.

I bought a speedy 30 on Craigslist, and had very good luck! I didn't meet the buyer at the Louis Vuitton store, but she said if they told me it was a fake then she would give me my money back (which was VERY risky, and the whole time I felt sick until I got to the store!).
Once I got to the Louis Vuitton store, the woman told me that she couldn't authenticate it in writing, but it was indeed a real Louis Vuitton piece. She then went on to show me exactly what makes it a real purse, including the stitching, the serial number, and different things about the monogram canvas. Then we compared it to the Speedy that was in the store. They even were nice enough to give me a dustbag and extra lock and key!!
I still browse Craigslist from time to time, but most of the listings are horrible fakes that people swear up and down are the real deal, so be careful!
It turned out to be a great experience, but I definently recommend meeting them directly at the store so you don't make yourself sick in the meantime wondering if you just dropped several hundred dollars on a fake!!
