Buy in Canada or in Europe?

I currently live in Canada but I will be going to Italy in a few weeks. I was thinking of buying the Utah Omaha and the Damier Keepall 50 while I'm in Italy but after calculating the total price with the VAT refund and the exchange rate, they come out to the same price in both countries. However, if I buy them in Italy and I can avoid paying duty at the airport at home, I could save about 300$ in taxes. Is it worth the risk or should I just buy them at home?

There have been other threads about this before but very quickly. When I went to Spain I didn't find that I was getting much of a deal at all. After taking out their VAT tax, plus the exchange rate, the price was pretty much the same. The only thing I would have saved buying in Spain vs. Canada is the Canadian tax. And of course, you save more if the item you want to buy gets more expensive. Keep in mind though that your limit is only $750 and anything over that would have to be (ack)declared(ack). Sooooooooooooo...you'd only be saving 13% of $750 and you'd (sniff)have(sniff) to pay tax on the difference...

You know... we bought stuff away on holiday and it's annoying because you can't keep any of the packaging and even if you could it takes up too much room. In addition it's always easier to buy locally. Then the store knows you and are easier to deal with. Nothing we bought away turned out cheaper.

Buy now and use the bag for your trip.

It's really upto you, it won't be cheaper I wouldn't have thought because the Euro is fairly strong at the minute. I sometimes buy on holiday just to make it a little bit more special, but ultimately the choice is yours. As already mentioned, you can't keep any of the packaging as it takes too much room.

AGREE WITH YOU, WE DID THAT WHEN IN VEGAS COMING BACK TO UK, NOT WORTH THE STRESS
