Another 1st timer question...what cc's does LV accept?

I thank all of you who have answered my 1st time shopping for LV questions.

All of your advice has been really helpful. Hopefully I won't totally look like the Kansas hick I am.

Anyway, I know I saw somewhere that LV only takes cash and Amex. I tried the search but cannot find the thread. Is that true or will they take my Visa debit card?

I do have to say that y'all are the sweetest group of ladies/men. It is so cool how you are willing to help anyone with anything. It is also so nice to see how positive and genuinely happy you are when someone gets something new.

I can't imagine an LV store not taking Visa nor Debit...that seems more absurd to me than a place not taking Amex (well, I live in Canada so not everywhere accepts Amex) but still...Visa and MasterCard are like the most basic credit cards...

LV takes debit cards at their boutiques. However, they only take credit cards online. Just make sure to phone your bank ahead if you are making a large purchase as some banks freeze accounts when large transactions are made.

^ In Canada, all the LVs take Visa, MasterCard, Amex, debit and cash... I would imagine US is similar. Not sure which country you live in.

Ok, I finally found the post where I saw the cash/amex only.

It was on the "sad/embarrassing louis vuitton store stories" thread (post #38):

I made a trip out to the Tysons Corner in VA to pick up a pochette for myself. Its quite a far ways out from where I live but I decided I would go. I took a look at some other options but decided to stick with the damier pochette. The SA wrapped it up for me and then told me she couldn't accept VISA or Mastercard... only Amex... So I asked her if there was a Chevy Chase bank around so I could go withdraw some cash for her, and she was unable to tell me if there was one around. Not living in the area, I didn't know that there were several branches around the block. She just kind of stared at me stupidly like I should obviously have an Amex or $350 cash on me... I was SO embarrassed I just decided to leave and order it online...

WOW. weird store...

all the LVs I've been to, a couple in NJ, CA, Toronto, HongKong, Beijing, London, Paris.....

all of them accept visa, master, and debit card (even the ones issued outside the country), I'v seen them dividing up the payment too if you don't have enough credit.

That is ridiculous. No Visa?? I talked to my boyfriend about this last night and he couldn't believe there would be a place that takes CC but NOT Visa...absolutely ridiculous.

This is probably an "isolated incident" or maybe their Visa/MC wasn't working?? I worked at a place where that happened before...MC went down but Visa was still working. It's not true that in general LV stores only accept Amex and cash.

The LV in Tysons Corner in VA is in Neiman Marcus. That's why they only take AMEX or NM card. There is a seperate LV store in Farifax square which will take all forms of payment. The OP of the story fail to say that it was Neiman Marcus store and not a standalone store.

this is my experience:
lv boutique - visa, mc, discover, amex, everything
lv - Neimens - Visa or neimans only
lv - bloomingdales - everything as well

Theres an LV across from tysons I, next to Tiffanys, Hermes and Gucci. I've never purchased from them, but, I was under the assumption that they took all cards...

Yea, that is a Neiman Marcus rule. You can use your debit anywhere else- or get a Neiman card.

I know that Neiman MArcus only accepts AMEX...they say they do it because AMEX is the only CC company that won't release customer information but obviously it's because tey want people to use cash

If the LV is in Neimans, then they only take AMEX, their store card or cash.
