Default what year was the speedy created?

I just saw some speedys that are 40+ years old and still look great. I know the speedy had been around forever, but just wondering if anyone knew what year the first speedy came out?

according to my SA, who seems very knowledgeable on LV history, speedys have been around since 1938 -- or was it 1930? sorry, i'm getting the last digit mixed up with the petit buckets which have been around since 1960 -- or 1968. heehee. sorry. but at least you have a general timeframe. hope that helps!

Here's a question for everyone. I've googled this and cannot find the answer.

Why is it called a "Speedy"?

There are actually conflicting statements about the history. It seems certain that the Keepallwas created in 1930, and the Speedy was re-modeled on this design. While some sources date this to the 1930s as well, Louis Vuitton's "ICON" book says it was "born" in 1930, but redesigned in new dimensions for Audrey Hepburn in the 1960s.

So I guess the earlier versions were probably versions of the Keepall 40, but I'm quite sure the first pictures of the 25 were Audrey's.

I read somewhere the name was chosen with regard to its suitability for the needs of the faster lifestyle of modern women, and I believe the name wasn't used before the 1960s.

This is an interesting topic and I would love to hear more about it!

I've also heard that the Speedy we know and love was created for Audrey Hepburn. I wonder where that bag is now because you KNOW it is still around somewhere!
