What would happen if, say, a cobbler pre-treated the vachetta to waterproof it. Would it prevent water stains while still allowing the patina to occur? Or is that sort of blasphemous with LV? I get all my other leather bags treated before use, so I'm curious.

I would like to the advice from those who have tried too.

I didn't do anything to my old LV bags, but I thought of spray some water & stain repellant on the next Monogram Canvas bag, wonder if it would slow down the process of this patina thing?

I feel that Vernis and Azur look better with the pale vachetta than honey-colored patina.

Thank you for explaining what patina and vachetta are. Have often wondered what they mean.

I was told waterproofing won't stop the patina--- it only helps decrease the stains and spotting---it evens out the patina!!
Some people don't like patina but I think it's cool to watch the leather turn!!

Sooooo-

what is everyone's favorite leather water protectant? There seems to be a nightmare store about most (everyone says appleguard- but one person put that it permanately changed her LV to very very dark).

What do you use???

Alright, Alright...

I just waterproofed my vachetta (with Wilson's). So far it looks great- not any darker at all.

Does anyone know, does this actually slow down the patina process, or does it simply help it to patina more evenly?
