Default Solvent Smelly Vernis...from ebayer
I read the tag and comments on smells...this is not about how to remove but if this is the norm...because it is not worth saving a couple hundred for something i can't use because it is so solvent smelling....like WD 40, but the bag is goregeous....I just got the bag of my dreams for the moment...a buy it now...but ist smells like solvent...is this the norm for vernis??? this is a vernis bellevue unused...should it smell this way???

My vernis items have never had this smell, this does not seem right to me. Sounds like the seller tried to remove a stain perhaps, my sister in law once tried to be clever and use nail polish remover to attempt to remove pen from her daughter's bag, needless to say she wrecked the bag and it was stinking of a horrible solvent smell.

Leave it in an airing cupboard to air out, and possibly spray some fragrance or febreeze to help speed up the process? This usually has worked for me.

I am sorry to hear this, I have several Vernis bags and they DO NOT have any smell. Was this an ebay buy? Have you asked the seller? Not that they would admit to anything! Only thought I would have is to air her out outside in fresh air and see if that helps at all...........How was the bag shipped? Maybe the box it was in is the culprit????

I notice that patent leather has this funny smell the first time I purchased a patent bag. Some have stronger smells than others. I choose the less-smelling bags. As for LV, I bought 2 Vernis ZCPs and because they are small, I can handle it. I am not sure what you can do with it? You could try a bag of baking soda inside the bag (make sure it doesn't spill inside) or some deodorizer (with sodium bicarbonate) discs and see what happens. If it really bothers you, then you should return it. That is the nature of the patenting process, unfortunately.

I am sorry the smell is so strong. I LVoe my Amarante ZCP and I don't mind sniffing the chemically smell because I got used to it from my other patent handbags, but if the smell was much much stronger, I'd be running the other way too.

Try the deodourizers idea and see if it works. Amarante is a gorgeous rich deep wine colour.

I would be worried about the smell 'attaching' to items that you leave in the bag for any period of time. I would probably return the item if it is possible.

I do have some vernis purses and doesn't have any smell. Perhaps, the seller used something.... If you really like it an its beautiful, you can just air it out for few days.... Im pretty sure it will be gone. Enjoy it!

I've found that vernis does have a unique smell - I describe as almost like bandaids ! I guess that is just the way it is.

I HATE the smell of new vernis - smells like bandaids to me (or balloons) - so gross. Maybe you just have a super nose?
