There should be no such thing as carrying a $690 (+ tax) bag too much! OMG I've had walmart bags that lasted without a trace of damage than some have with their Ebone Speedys! Ugh LV is getting on my nerves with their exhorbitant prices & sub-par quality. Granted not all of them are sub-par but there should be NO problems with such expensive merchandise. People don't want to pay for JUST the name.

I called LV 1-866 about the Galliera's hardwear leaving black marks on the vachetta & they said that LV has addressed this issue & considered it a manufacturing deffect & now they coat the brass rings on the Galliera to prevent it from leaving black on the vachetta. Has anyone tried calling LV's 1-866 # to inquire about the peeling handles? Has LV fixed this problem as they have with the Galliera? If so post what they have said about this issue here. TIA.

LOL, I realized I answered the poll all wrong. I do have a speedy with untreated vachetta (mono). It hasn't peeled.

I think the only time my speedy might peel is if I left it under extreme conditions like a frigid location, or excessive cleaning or sweating on the handles. I figure once the vachetta is burnished from frequent use, the natural oils from leather creates the burnished smooth vachetta, and that naturally protects it from chips and peels.

I have heard of many cases (on tpf) who have had peeling handles on the Ebene Speedy. That was why I was originally afraid of buying one. Unforturnately, I fell in love at the boutique and bought one in August
I do notice however that the handles seem "wrinkled" underneath-- you can definitely see the difference from the mono handles. The ebene handles are actually "coated"- they have a layer on top of vachetta. So, sometimes that layer peels right off the vachetta depending on how often you use the bag, the oils in your hands, etc.....each bag is different.

I don't think the Ebene Speedy will last as long as my mono but I'm hoping for the best!!! If I see any problems in the near future (next year or so) I am definitely going to complain and then I'll never purchase any coated vachetta bags again.
I find I actually baby my Ebene Speedy more than my mono!

I did call the LV 800 # and inquired about the peeling handles. They must be advised on how to answer this question because he said that he wasn't aware of any problems such as this. He hasn't heard of anybody having such problems. (I am sure they are instructed on what to say about this so not to cost them any sales). Has anyone else had an SA admit to this problem? And if so, what did they say?
TIA

^ Well I do occasionally hold it in my hand because my arm gets tired. ):

But about 90% of the time it's on my arm.

I really appreciate that you called them & asked about this problem & posted it on here. I think some SA's will say anything to not lose a sale but when I called them about the Galliera's hardwear issues the lady gladly told me that they fixed the problem in the manufacturing. Maybe they haven't bothered to address the peeling handles problem yet & so they are playing dumb?

I have a Speedy 35 mono and just noticed today that 3 of the 4 corners have peeled on the piping and the plastic is showing! The rest of my purse is in great shape and I do not abuse my purse. Goodness, I paid $650.00 dollars for it a few years back and do not carry it very often...so, how the hell did this happen? I am very upset at the moment and came to the forum to see if anyone else had this issue. I bought my purse from eluxury and I don't even know if I could find the receipt anymore. I don't want to shell out any more money for repairs and I feel this is just a QC issue! It really sucks to spend that much money and have plastic poking through on your purse! Like someone else said, I have never had any problems like this with any purse! What should I do? I could spit nails!!!
