I want to know why some have answered Yes, I own a Speedy with vachetta when asked Has your Speedy handles ever peeled? OMG does this mean that the untreated vachetta handles can peel too?

the only thing that has ever happend to me with my priscilla mc, which has similar handles was within 2-3 weeks of being brand new some of the clear plastic-y stuff peeled off, but as for leather peeling- that hasn't happend on any of my bags... eh eh eh and the thought of it makes me cringe

Did you get your Speedy repaired?

I am a little hesitant about carrying my Speedy lately because of that incident even though I use luggage grips to carry it. Maybe it's just because I am lazy and went back to the shoulder bags I adore.

I should bring her out again. Just not today. I am feeling ill.

I know right! I think some people just misunderstood the question when they answered Yes, I own a Speedy w/vachetta.

So far I've had no problems with my Speedy.
I've had her almost a year with heavy rotation.

Actually.. it's exactly as that.. I've heard some people have had their monogram speedys with vachetta and the red glaze peel.. It's rare but I guess it happens.

^Wow! I guess the glaze on the leather makes the leather brittle & prone to peeling then. Maybe the more glaze on the leather the more prone to peeling? LV should really fix this problem imo.

This is a great thread btw, it's a question that I've wanted to ask but at the risk of sounding so green (which I am!) I don't know how to create a poll widget.

I own a Speedy 30 damier Ebony, and my handles where it's glazed, is peeling. I've had it since June and just recently it started peeling. Maybe I carry it too much, and when I sweat and when the handles rub on my skin, that's what makes the handles start to peel.

Is there a cost to having the peeling repaired or do they do it for free due to being a fault??

That's basically the problem I had and my hands are very warm. Maybe that's why people like me when they shake my hand. I am warm and friendly.

When my handles peeled, I was horrified and refused to take pictures of the peeling nightmare. I returned mine right away and had it repaired. It took 8 weeks to come back and the bottom of the handles had striated glazing. I refused to send it back to have that repaired because it took 8 long weeks to come back already.

Now I use it with luggage grips and it works very well, but I haven't been carrying mine lately. I am just not feeling confident with LV quality since the peeling problem. That also goes double for my other LV bags too. The only thing I truly like are my LV SLGs. They're grrrrreat!

It just seems that I trust the quality of the SLGs much more than their handbags. There are rarely any problems (unless you put a LV wallet in your back pocket and sit on it every day!) and the material seems much sturdier based on thickness to surface ratio. Despite the strength, I treat my SLGs with the greatest respect and gentleness they deserve. From reading threads on other problems with LV handbag quality, I would rather stay with SLGs and steer clear of LV handbags altogether. Besides, I LVoe carrying my LV SLGs inside my other style bags. I feel like I get my daily LV fix and nobody really needs to know otherwise--until I open my bag and pull out a shiny hot LV wallet to pay for a purchase or touch up my face from stuff inside my LV cosmetic case. And even then, the LV is to tantalize my eyes and not theirs.
