Dumb question- what's the proper way to pronounce the word "Vuitton"? I've always said it one way and I was watching Oprah a couple days ago and she said it a way I've never heard before- like "veee-tone" ?? Is that right?
She was saying it because she was talking to a family that supposedly spoiled their kids and the 18 year old daughter had two LV bags. Oprah was like- Why do you have 2 vee-tones?!? Do you know how much a vee-tone is!?!? And the girl was like- umm.. they are two different shapes (one was a papillon and the other a speedy 25). And Oprah was just huffed and rolled her eyes like she couldn't understand why the girl would have two. I wanted to say- shut up Oprah- you know you have tons of bags that cost a heck of a lot more than a LV.

I say "loo-ee vee-tawn". That's how they say it at my boutique, and it's just stuck. That's what I've taught my daughter to say.

LV is french so should be pronounced in French like Chaneller said Hermès is Er-mei-S (the r should be from the throat not rolling your tongue). I wish I knew how to write phonetic symbols to put in my 2cent...hehe I guess I am not helping here. I found this, ladies, we should now be able to pronounce most of the designer names!
http://fashion.about.com/cs/designers/l/blpronounce.htm It's so wonderful that they pronounce the names with their original accent/language, like Prada with the real Italian accent. Fun! |

In conversation, I just refer to Louis Vuitton by its first name or as LV. Strangely enough, I find myself saying "loo-wee" instead of
"loo-eee." Cute thread ---you have me breaking down syllables and self-conscious about my pronounciation now.

Well, I'm European and I hear those a lot!
But please don't make me pronounce words like Massachusetts, Jewerly or Knowledge or my tongue will end up as a knot!
