I've been eyeing the Dylan shoulder in viola and Dylan messenger bag in leaf for some time, and I was wondering:
1. Is the width of the bag overwhelming for tiny frames? I'm 5', 100lbs so I'm worried that the Dylan is too wide for my torso. Is it correct to assume that the leather squishes down with use so that it doesn't look so wide? 2. How comfortable is the rolled handle on the Dylan croco shoulder bag? Does it dig into your shoulder if you weigh the bag down? TIA! |

While very comfy, the croco is thicker and not as squishy as the messenger bag. If you haven't already done so, take a look at Fifishin's modeling shots in the reference library. I don't know about her height but she's quite slim.
P.S. I just looked at the photos again. Funny, the croco looks more slouchy than the messenger but I think that's because the croco is being worn on the shoulder whereas the messenger is worn cross-body. Can't really see the drape on the body. Hopefully, Fifishin will chime in. |

hi. i have both those bags and sybaryte is definitely right. the leaf messenger is more slouchy than the croc viola. in the pics that i took, the leaf messenger looks a bit stiff because it was filled with paper stuffing from the store that i didn't bother taking out. the viola croco, on the other hand was empty when i took the pic so it really looked slouchy. it doesn't look wide at all when worn because the leather conforms to your body. i'm just a little over 5 feet and you can look at my pics if it would look overwhelming to you. i'm heavier than you in weight though.
the handles are comfortable on the shoulder. i haven't put too much in the bag to say if it would dig onto your shoulder if you put a ton in it but i could say that it's definitely more comfortable than the newer dylan ones (i have the long speedy and the zip tote that have much stiffer and uncomfortable handles). hope this helps you a little. |

![]() My one quibble with LP (sorry to LP lovers!) is that I would prefer sealed as opposed to raw exposed leather edges. From what I can tell in pics, the croco bags seem to have edges that are less raw looking, which is why I'm leaning towards the croco. However, I'm very bad about loading down my bags, so the shoulder bag's rolled handle may not work out for me. I have a Hayden-Harnett bag with rolled handles that I don't use anymore for precisely that reason. Must ponder some more!

glad to help :) with regards to raw edges, the leaf messenger definitely has some, especially on the handle. it is pretty adjustable though having 5 holes so you should be ok with that. the croco is more finished. i actually don't remember seeing any raw edges but i may be wrong. yeah, think long and hard :) these are not cheap purchases so good luck with whatever you decide on.

Ami Kio, I have the Dylan Croco in viola and I love it! Although I'm bigger than you I'm still pretty small (5'4" 115 lbs) and the bag doesn't seem too large at all. It has enough slouch that it doesn't "stick out." I also have found this rolled handle to be very comfortable and it stays on my shoulder well. I wore it Monday and my daughter loaded it down with her camera, tap shoes, etc. and it still felt fine.
