Hi all: I have a vintage Kooba, the Ginger. I desperately need to know how to get it cleaned. I used the heck out of it and now there's a huge black stain on the bottom. I tried cleaning a small patch with tea oil and the paper towel was stained. Before I start experimenting to the detriment of my Kooba do any of you know how to clean this? Or in general how to get the leather cleaned?
Thanks so much. |

Hi, and welcome to the forum! I see that you are pretty new here, so maybe you aren't aware of www.luvinmybags.com. I haven't personally had any bag disasters like what just happened to your beautiful Ginger bag, but most generally we all think that this website is the best place to go for bag restoration. I wouldn't attempt a large stain like that myself. Check it out and see how they can help you. Good luck! And I am sure you will get some other suggestions, too.

Hi: Any news on your bag? Have you tried contacting LMB yet?
Good luck! |

Hi yes. I contacted them and they sent me a form to fill out and send to them but their estimate is $285 for the restoration. I also took it a leather expert and he told me to make sure that they "refinish" it rather than re-dye because of the type of leather it was. He was amazed at how beautiful the leather was. I asked him to recommend someone in my hometown and he said he wouldn't as they would not be able to refinish it. He told me about some shops in San Francisco.

I was at the paint store and they didn't wipe down my paint cans and I got dark green paint on my natural colored Marcelle. I was heartbroken and mad at the same time. When I tried to clean it with water and a paper towel (it was acrylic paint), the color from the bag rubbed off as well, then I used some baby powder and blotted it mostly away and then I rubbed the entire bag down with mink oil to even out the color. It was scary at first b/c the mink oil really darkened it, but after drying down for a few days it returned to its original color and I buffed it back. The leather on it was very soft and almost "suede-y" but it wasn't suede. Anyway, I got it back to almost as good as new, but it took a lot of work and freaking out that I was ruining a $600 bag. I never went back to that Benjamin Moore store again!

I just got this emailed to me. I have never tried them so I am not sure of what kind of job they do. But maybe they can help.
