I have since seen a couple listed on eBay that are the ugly brownish color, however they still sell. I'm guessing buyer's are planning to have them dyed.I think if I were to list I would call that color moldy mushroom.

So I have an update for everyone.
The bag finally made it to Kooba and they looked at it. I was told to pick another bag from the fall 08 line as an exchange. I told Ada I didn't want another bag, I just wanted this one re-dyed. She said that the leather already came dyed and so they couldn't do that. I'm so bummed! I love this bag and don't want a different one. I wrote back and said that I didn't want any bag from the 08 lines and that the only gray bag I see that would be comparable (since I want gray) is a fall 09 bag.
We shall see.

Well, good luck to you on that one! Personally, I was a Kooba cheerleader for a couple of years, and if they ever get their act together, I'd be right there for them once again. I hope you get some satisfaction, but if I were in your shoes, I'd pick a new 08 bag over a re-dyed one, though. You might get to wearing it faster because it sounds like you'll be waiting a bit longer for something to happen.

Well, I guess that goes for me and my "turning brown Gretchen" also. I don't expect money back since I purchased it like new from it's original owner and it didn't start turning until a couple of months ago. Quite frankly you couldn't give me any of the 08 bags, the leather has problems on a regular basis.

I have been slowly selling my Kooba collection, have held on to my Espresso Sienna, Parker in Ink, black Jessie and of course my Gretchen. The rest have been auctioned off to new homes. Aside from one of the Fall bags in black (and only if it's thick leather), I'm ready to move along. It is just too heartbreaking to see the cheap leather that's been making an appearance lately.

What a disappointment for you Lululapell, I am sorry Kooba didn't have a solution for the Gretchen. So, are they sending the bag back to you? I don't know what to do with mine. If they say it can't be dyed I don't see how I can toss such an expensive bag. Good grief!

Wow, I was dying to get a Kooba I saw in Nordies and this thread has put me right off it. I bet other people see this and think the same. Wonder how many sales you just lost Kooba?

I don't exactly know how many sales are really lost, but I was looking at the leather on some of the new Koobas and the leather reminds me exactly of the Tano crunch leather. Now, I don't know if it is the same, but Tano bags can be bought for in the high $100 and $200 range. I'll have to look at some Koobas IRL to actually see the difference. I hope there is a difference. When I buy a Tano, I expect exactly what I pay for, but I don't expect Tano leather on a Kooba. They just don't seem to have their dyes just right for some reason.

They are sending me a new bag, circa fall 09. I won't see it until I return mid August but I'm staying optomistic. It looks to be the same color gray as the Gretchen, so I'm hoping the dye process is different this time around. And I really do love this bag style they are sending me.
So far Kooba has done right by me so I will definitely continue to purchase from them.

lululapell,

I think I know which bag you are getting and it's color is called Dove Gray, I've seen it, it's very pretty, lighter than the Slate with just a hint of blue.

I'd like to think I'm not crazy, this is a listing for the newer grey shade introduced by Kooba. Does anyone see obvious differences in the grey color? I'm not talking about variation, but instead, the leather changing colors.

Well, if that is the color bag Kooba sent free to lululapell I'm sure she will keep us updated on any problems with the grey leather.
