Hey girls,

I posted about this site in the Balenciaga forum for the girls there to have a look at, but this store also has a Kooba section and I wanted to get your thoughts on if it's legit or not.

I was looking up a bag on this shopping search engine that I recently found - and this store came up.

http://www.shopstarstyle.com

The bags are so ridiculously cheap - especially for Balenciaga - they MUST be fake.
I don't know anything about B-bags, hence my post in that forum, but the Koobas look good. I don't know if it's a case of buying real bags, photographing them and then returning them, but that seems like an awful lot of work!

Has anyone heard of this website? Seems waaaaay too good to be true.

I also noticed they only accept money order, cheque or western union. Basically, anything where charges can be revoked isn't an option. The pictures though...sheesh. They are really throwing me off.

I would be very, very distrustful. Looking at the Koobas, some look like stock photos of what are clearly real bags - but look at that brown Sienna. Very fake. I guess they wised up with some of the later bags and just used stock pictures instead.

Look at the Hermes section - a supposed Birkin for $999, which is pretty unbelievable if it were real. But that blue one is not even a good fake.

BTW: The bag was listed as NWT but the interior slip pockets look a bit stretched rather than flat, which is what happens to the ultrasuede lined bags with use. That would have caused me to ask questions of the seller as to the actual "newness" of the Marcelle.

Need help authenticating this Sienna, very perplexing.

I originally posted a topic regarding zipper information on a Sienna. I'm guessing I will get more help using this thread, I hope.

I won a Sienna, it arrived today, looking gorgeous until I looked at the pocket zipper. It is small, thin up to the end where it does thicken. The zipper is so very much smaller than I've found in any of my other Koobas. Alas, it is also engraved on both sides.

The Kooba one-sided tag lists the color as Nutmeg and the Style # as F541L-1
Color Code 2

I re-read all of ChristieD's Kooba Guides. I especially noted the comment regarding zippers having the Kooba name on both sides. I unpacked my Kooba Sienna in Ivory, purchased from a TPF of long standing, in order to compare where I could.
The differences I found are as follows:
Leather in the Ivory is thicker
Zipper is obviously smaller in the bag I received today
Brads attaching the straps to the O rings are larger in the Ivory
Markings on the snap fastener: All my Koobas have the following: USA TM 1974222
This new bag has OK 0973628 and OKPTA1519426

The Nutmeg stitching is perfect, whipstitching looks good, leather is not as heavy as the Ivory Sienna. You will find pictures of the zipper in my previous post regarding Kooba Siennas and thin zippers. The leather is gorgeous and has variations as it should.

I am going to attempt to attach pictures, I seem to have a hard time doing this on TPF. Wish me luck.

That seller and another one, both in Canada, have had several Moss Marcelle bags. I'm thinking they must have found them at an outlet store. Strangely, while it was an authentic bag, the other seller would not respond to questions as to where she purchased them and was in fact rude to a tpf member (on either the Marcelle or another Kooba she had multiples of).

Multiples don't usually bother me unless they are a ridiculously high number. One of my fav eBay sellers will have more than one of a particular bag style, which is accounted for by the fact that she buys them at Century 21 in NY and picks up whatever they have, etc.

You know, I'm just going to hang my hat on this being authentic. They didn't start making those whackadoodle fakes until the whole 'lavender inside' thing happened.
Look, I've seen it all - those Kooba leathers have changed over the years like you wouldn't believe.
Let's take the Lucy for example. Those first Lucys were as thin as paper. Beautiful to be sure, gorgeous - for sure!!!! HOWEVER, prone to scratching and oy - so thin. I had the purple and green Lucys at that time....
Then they got chewy - around the time the Ivory and Espresso Siennas came out...personally, I think that's been their best leathers yet. I had several Lucys in that thick leather - the black was drop-dead gorgeous.
Then they got a little whacky. I remember they came out with those green and beige Lucys....not a good time for Kooba...then it was "roadkill" wrinkled leather....then now they've tried to come around, but for those who've never felt the Koobas of old, you know that even the newer leathers don't compare.

Not to have gotten way off the beaten track, but in looking at the interior of your bag, look at the tapering of your zipper, looking at the tag, the different variations of that leather, I'll be damned if that's a fake. Seriously. Does it have that beautiful Kooba smell???

Kooba is just so inconsistant in it's designing that every time we think we have a sure fire way to tell authenticity, we find it's not. I was about to say the only way is to get it in your hands and see and feel the leather, and then you'll know. But after this last couple of seasons, the leather is so cheap and chintzy that who will ever be able to tell a real one from a fake.
This bag is no doubt real so count the one sided engraved zipper pull off your list.

Is there a possibility that the seller took pictures of an authentic handbag and is mailing fake ones off? They use the same stock picture of the bag in every listing when it's obviously not the same bag. They also mark their listings private which is always a big red flag for me. I'm going to send her a note about the green marcelle and ask her where she gets her bags. Let's see what she has to say.

Also - what the heck is a "Sienna Moroccan" handbag? Aren't there similar faked ones that you can get in Morocco for a song? That would be a pretty big gaffe when you're trying to pass them off as real. The one that another seller in Canada has listed looks very odd indeed.
