Wow - that was quite the little thread! I love Choos and while I don't think the quality has been great on any of the H&M collaborations (there were some cute things in the Matthew Williamson collection -I'll give them that) and the Target stuff has been awful in most cases (IMO), I'm at least glad it's a one-time H&M project which will probably sell out quickly and that will be the end of it. While I do buy the MJ and MK secondary lines in clothing, the bags and shoes aren't the same quality as the main line and I do stick to the higher end line for those, but I do buy the clothing from MBMJ and MMK. I realize Choo has to do what they need to survive, I personally prefer to think of them as a more exclusive, luxury line with the high quality and cachet they are known for.

I love how people who DON'T own these bags were all for it on that thread. It got heated because we Choo fans feel betrayed. I just got a delivery today of bags that I paid $4,000 for on sale (retail $8,000). Now I read about a joint venture with something akin to Target. O hell no. If they are hurting for $$$ dont sell pleather for $2000. Lower prices. Don't sell out.

yeah, Suzzeee I agree that it's a bit different when it comes to shoes and bags, as opposed to clothes.

And, I also think that Choo could stick to designing fabulous, lovely things while lowering their prices a little (and put off opening new boutiques which I read a comment about but personally don't know) then the main group of fans would continue buying and stay loyal. It's worrying when I read on the forum that Choo fans are turned off by some of the upcoming designs as being all plasticy and stuff.

TL: I think it's going to be a great bag! And woo hoo!! You are indeed going to be coloring up and going with the wildflowers of South Dakota with your new Ignes accessories, too!! And brown is in the orange family, so you are just wearing a BRIGHT NEUTRAL!! Lol. I got that about brown and orange from interior design stuff....

i think you cannot maintain quality with a really cheap price. when a high designer makes something, lets say on 1000$, you pay 700$ for the quality and 300$ for the brand. if you do this colaborations you pay from 100$ about 50$ for the quality and 50$ for the brand., so it is 50% just because of the label. I have seen the HyM collaborations, but never arrived to buy anything, as all the things look cheap made.
I think high end labels do collaborations for the publicity, they know it wont be the same thing at all, so no fear of loosing customers.

I saw that thread too, after E posted about it. I think these collaborations are not so great. If anything, why not do a line like M by MJ? It is part of the line, but a step down in price. Some brands that did the Target thing have a M by MJ price tag though, so the alternative is a sale, which is not bad at all.

I don't like the JC collaboration and I don't even own a JC (yet)!

Start of a 3 day weekend here, but tomorrow is for working on the bathroom so I can finish on Sunday. Not exactly fun per se.

What gets me about the Choo thing is that they opted out of Saks F&F sale earlier this year. They did not want their stuff discounted because they wanted to be exclusive. But they are okay with an H&M line? That is hypocritical to me. Yes, the H&M thing is temporary, but so was the 4-day Saks sale.

More of a concern is if this turns out not to be temporary but a step-by-step dilution of the brand, the quality and the company. I think that is why the Choo fans were concerned (and after seeing some of the fall line, I can see why).

I don't own that many Choos. I only own one bag. I do have and adore their shoes though. They are innovative and very well made. If they knock off their own designs, I won't buy anymore. I wanted to say more in that thread than I did, but I don't visit that sub-forum too much and did not want to step on anyone's toes there. I did find the comment about people being superficial as very insulting - especially since fans of this collaberation are happy that there are Jimmy Choo shoes at H&M without actually seeing what they look like - they were just happy they were JC! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Geez.

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well and finalizing some Ignes orders. I am trying really hard to fight the tempation.

I am surprised by Choo's decision to do this.
Business-wise, it is a mistake to cheapen your brand.

Better to just weather the bad times and trust that your fashion fans will find you again when the economy recovers.

Sure they'll make wads and wads of cash with the HM deal, but when the affluent again has cash in hand, Choo is going to have a big headache.

Good luck convincing your former clientele that they should pay over a $1000 for an item that HM is carrying for $100.

I would imagine it takes years of hard work to make a name for yourself in the luxury fashion industry.
Why do you think LV never goes on sale (btw, I am not an LV consumer, they are not my style, but I respect the business model).

I'm not in the Choo league (not enough dough in my budget), but I feel bad for the Choo folk out there.

Just stopping in to say hi..and wow..did I fall into some interesting 'stuff'...I've been nursing a headache all day..LL..the weather stinks..right?

Elizat..((hug)) miss you..yay on selling another bag..

Matt..macho macho man..and what were you doing at the mall...looking to see where the HM is so you can score those choo shoes? Seriously..feel better..just don't overdo..OK?

Texting while driving..if my kids ever did that..I'd kill them myself..yeah..some of these kids are morons..but I've seen men typing on laptops resting on the passenger seat..and shaving while talking on the cell phone..no bluetooth..not hands free..soo Matt...spill it....two hands being used..WTF was he steering with..KWIM? OK..I've also seen women putting on mascara and lipstick..turning their heads to yell at kids...and typing on laptops too.....I've seen adults reading the newspaper spread out on the steering wheel..none of this while stopped in traffic btw..and on the LIE to boot..(anyone who lives in NYC knows about traffic..and trucks..on the Long Island Expressway)

I give up..I don't like driving as much as I used to..sigh

Amigas, and amigo..I don't do Choo..not in my ballpark..so I don't feel right saying anything..but..as far as image..luxury is luxury..I know that designers such as Stella McCartney and Rei Kwakubo of Commes de Garconnesm, did stuff for H&M..but when I went to look..ugh..

Issac Mizrahi.clothing...for Target..meh...!

Anne Hindemarch (sp) UGH!!..I'd rather not own than to own..Bizarro Bags.(Superman fans..you know what I mean)..I couldn't even stomach HH for Target..ugh..or Rafe..or anything else..(Targay..right?) ditto Norma Kamali for Walmart..OMG..enough.

I need sustainence..and Motrin..and coffee..and I am avoiding all talk about buying bags..so..TTFN..I miss you guys.

^^ Yep, the weather still thinks.

I came home to boxes drenched in rain (oy vey), a black trash bag tied around my mail box with a box in it, boxes stacked in front of my garage, but NO freaking IGNES! Urgh my mini-ormala in ostrish is still not here.

The bright side is I got my choo fix. No one does exotics like choo. The snake is so soft, almost like silk.

But anyway, back to IGnes, no mini-o! URGH. Fedex sucks.

Reading and catching up. Sold a belt on Bonanzle this week and a bag last week. Got hammered on price with both but that's okay. I used both enough to know they don't work, so now they'll have happy new leather mommas.

Yay elizat's sale!

Back to catch up on the Choo madness.
