Wait and hear back from Maria. See if you can work something out together. I know it has to be disappointing, when you think you ordered x, but are presented w/ y.
I have seen other leathers w/ the sort of splotchy look w/ hair- the turquoise and brown- so I might have a different point of reference though, kwim? I still think they needed to note it was a hair leather though and they didn't. |

I am sorry it is not what you were expecting. I am sure Maria will take care of you. It is a cool looking bag.

Well, I do agree that it is a great bag, but if it's not the one you had in mind then that's a problem.
Shame you were not aware it was a cowhair swatch, that might have swayed your choice. I do recall some time ago that discussion came up regarding leathers that had great variation over the whole hide, and that a tiny swatch did not indicate what a finished bag might look like. Perhaps a suggestion to show whole hides (before cut to make a bag) would alleviate this problem. I honestly don't know if this is possible for them, or feasible. Can't hurt to ask. |

Well, the swatch on teh site definitely looks hairy to me, but I am familiar with the hairy Ignes leathers!! At first I thought the issue was that you wanted a patchy hairy look, as opposed to a striped. I think the bag is totally awesome! I can imagine that you would be shocked if you didn't realize it was hairy.
did you correspond with Maria about it or just order? You totally have to watch out for bag pics on the Ignes site....but I would think that Maria would mention the hairy aspect. And yes! They must label things! In the catalog, for instance, they don't even label the ostrich as ostrich! I just sort of knew it was ostrich. Hmm... I'm sorry you have had a shock. I think that if you didn't know about the hairy leathers you could easily envision something different. You should definitely tell Maria what is going on, and see what you think when you get it. Keep us posted!! |

^ I did correspond with Maria about it before ordering. There were several e-mails/chat messages back and forth about availability and such, and she was great about her suggestions. Then, in the confirmation e-mail, she just mentioned "gold and tan leather with hair," and this was the first time I heard of it having hair, but I then assumed that it was going to be a sparse kind of style which I was so fine with, hence why I saw all metallics in the catalogue pic. I have had a bag (Leaders in Leather) with sparse hairs all over it before, allowing the skin to show through extremely well, so the hair idea was just fine to me.
I mean I have about 20/20 vision with my contacts, and I have been oogling that catalogue pic like crazy. It's nuts that I don't see the tan hairs, just tan metallics, on that site no matter what, but in sillykitty's swatch image, the hairs are so obvious to me as well! The leopard prints in the same Ignes catalogue also obviously have hairs, no hesitation about it. I guess my point is that the lack of labels didn't really bother me as I thought I could see what had what to a large or even some degree, but that no. 205 was totally different to me. Oh well, Maria's gotten back to me and she doesn't know where exactly that catalogue swatch image that I got came from. So, I've e-mailed her back, directing her to it. |

NagaJolokia, I hope you can get this straightened out to your satisfaction. I do think that it should be clearly labeled AND clearly mentioned, and Maria needs to do that sort of thing when she's interacting with customers. But of course I see your point.
I do think it's an awesome bag!! If you had to trade it in for something else, I don't think Ignes would have trouble selling it as a sample! |

Thanks much, Euridice.
Update: Okay, well, she said that the bag is not required to be sent back because of the special engraving and so forth. She's offered an extra special discount on another bag of my choice if I don't like the Sofia as much. She is asking if it is a good compromise. I've sent her more inquiries about specifics of the Ignes policy and the discount. I really don't want another bag period from anywhere anytime soon as the Sofia was supposed to be my last bag in a long, long while, so if there's an expiration to this discount, I probably won't take it and just either keep the Sofia or try to sell it. |

For what it is worth, as a person who doesnt usually like bags w/ animal type stripes, I saw yours and was just bowled over. I hope you like it, too. It looks super neat in the photos. I just ordered my sister a clutch in the gold w/ streaks!

NagaJolokia....I understand it was not what you were expecting....but like others have said the bag is simply stunning. I am hoping it bowls you over IRL.
I doubt very much that any discount Maria gave on a future bag would expire. She tries really hard to make customers happy. I can't wait to see your pics when you receive her. |

Yes, it's arrived. It arrived this past Wednesday. It looks like it does in the production pics and in the TPF swatch image (not the Ignes online one), which is good because that's accurate representation but still bad because it was definitely not at all what I was going for. Also, as if that wasn't enough of a deal breaker, I discovered white patches of hairs, instead of tan or gold like the rest of the bag. They were very obvious on the side of the bag and somewhat on the other. I took pics of this immediately and got back to Maria on the same day of delivery. Before the delivery though, Maria said that someone else is interested in the bag, so that if I didn't like it, that would be an option. After reporting the above to her in e-mail, she responded immediately, saying that before she discusses policies regarding such issues, she'd ask them to see if they're still interested and to get back to me. Well, more than three days passed before she got back to me to finally say that Ignes had been spending all that time analyzing and discussing what to do best about this matter. She said that she had drafted a long e-mail but thought it was best to discuss it over the phone or online chat. So, I have given her my number for contact in the evening. I should be able to talk to her for the first time over the phone this Monday. I am very curious about the length of internal discussion that had taken place as I had never encountered that kind of length of discussion on my case before.
The below pics are just on one side of the bag, the other side has the patch somewhat hidden beneath the pocket, and so I couldn't get a good pic of that, so I decided not to post it. ![]() ![]() If you want IRL pics of the whole bag which is just fine in condition aside from the white hairs, it's still just sitting there in my room partially wrapped up in Ignes packing material as I wanted to ship it back in as original condition as possible if it's even an option to ship it back with a full refund. I can take those pics when I get home from work. |

I hope the outcome is favorable! Please continue to update us...it's interesting that a company would take that much time discussing on the sidelines what to do about your order. I'm curious!
On the other hand, I'd love to see IRL photos!

I am sorry this has happened.
IMO the areas that are white are defective and where the color did not go through. I would send these pictures and show them. As far as the length of time it is taking for them to get back to you, unfortunately it is because of the massive problems Ignes has had on returns. They have had massive returns on bespoke items (that had no damage and were just buyer's remorse) because of their once liberal return policy and so they had to make changes because people were taking advantage of the system. I think you have every right to a return and am obviously not talking about you, but just explaining the situtation. IGNES has great cs, but returns are a diffcult issue for them and you unfortunately are caught up in the fallout. The returns have really hurt their bottom line so they are being a lot more thoughtful in the process than they were in the past. In the past, you could have returned anything so people were ordering crazzy a** combinations without any care and returning them when their crazy a** ideas turned into a fugly crazy a** bag. A few bad apples have ruined it for all of us, unfortunately. |
