Report on Royal Purple - it is prone to scratches

Not sure how it happened, but my Royal Purple/Dark Purple Ormala has a fairly large scratch on the front of the bag. She hasn't even left the house yet . The good thing is, the leather is so distressed, I'm the only one who would ever notice. The only way it is noticeable is that the scratch is against the grain of the distressing. I conditioned it last night, but it didn't improve at all.

SK - so sad to hear that! I wore my royal purple Virginia for a week straight and no signs of scratches. It is more rumply though. I will try to take a pic and post soon.

Default Black 109 & Black Ostrich
Black 109 & Black Ostrich

As I wrote about in this post Reveal - Redesigned Luisa in Black 109/Black Ostrich my Luisa had some bad luck in NYC. I've decided to look at it as a positive learning experience about the two different leather.

Black 109

This is an incrediblely tough, indestructable leather. I scrubbed yellow paint out of it w a rough hotel towel and Purell and it doesn't show a mark! It didn't even lose any gloss!

Black Ostrich

This leather is quite delicate and shows wear very easily. The scrubbing the paint out lifted the black pigment and shows the wear from the rubbing. I think the yellow is the undertones and not the paint left.

This area shows the yellow coming through on a corner that received a lot of wear. This had no contact w the yellow paint.

Color also lifted while using Wilson's TLC Leather Lotion. The corner wear doesn't bother me, as I think it gives the bag some character and a vintage-y look. This leather is currently OOS, so all of this might be moot, but in case it doesn't come back in stock I think it's important that the buyer be aware of how delicate it is.

Aubergine seems to scuff easily - received a new bag with corners that looked worn, and after carrying only half a day I scuffed it on the side!

How does Sunflower and Earth Red wear? I'm not too hard on my bags but I'd still like something that isn't too delicate.

I have a Sunflower Mini Emilia. I haven't worn it much, but my impression is that it's tough and seemingly indestructible. It's a tinted leather, so you can also look at reviews of Tinted Chocolate, Tinted Wine, Cognac, and a few more I'm forgetting. I've tried scratching my Tinted Wine swatch and can't get it to show a mark. It's a very thin leather, not a bad thing IMO, just so you're not expecting a thick chewy one.

Here is Tinted Wine compared to a thick Suede

Earth Red, I don't believe anyone on here has a bag w this yet, as it's new. I have a swatch. It's very similar to the Royal Purple I commented on above. I just gave the scratch test on the swatch, OMG, deep scratch wo too much effort. One thing though, the leather is so veiny and distressed, you'd probably be the only one who could see the scratches.

Thanks SillyKitty! I have a BE Tan Hold Me and will have the Sunflower Emilia soon. My next brown up in the colour spectrum is chocolate matte, so I'm looking for a reddish-brown and I think that Cognac will fit the bill. If this is hard wearing, even better!
