Default Help me with my first Ignes!
Hi everyone! I've spent most of my time over in the Tano SF (I went from 0-6 in 3 months), where I happened upon Knasarae's unbelievable Cognac Midi Sophia in the spring. I've been jonsing for a new bag purchase for awhile now, and that Sophia of Knasarae's has been haunting me! After looking through the color and style threads, I'm 97% sure I want to do a Midi Sophia, but I'd like to check out some other options before I just request the same style as Knasarae's. =)

I'd like to do something neutral and seasonless (I already have a number of colorful bags - duh, Tano) but still luxurious and unique. I like a medium sized bag that sits well on the shoulder, has some architectural interest or other detail to it, and prefer a single hobo strap. I'm not yet sure about lining, hardware, reinforcements, etc., though I'm possibly considering studs. So many options!

I've just requested the swatches below. I searched for them in the swatch swap but didn't see that anyone had them. I'm guessing because they are all new!

Warm Pewter (186)
Taupe (057)

Pearlized Bordeaux (770)
Pearlized Charcoal (729)
Wine - Exterior Suede (913)
Light Grey (129)
Tinted Wine (203)
Cognac (132)
Aubergine (074)

Thanks all, and I'm looking forward to my first Ignes! It'll be my birthday present to myself this year!

Great choices! Have you considered an Emilia or Mini Emilia? My first Ignes was a midi sofia in tinted chocolate and while I loved the leather, the style wasn't my favorite. But I love my mini Emilia! I think the nicest leathers for an Emilia is pearlized bordeaux, tinted wine or tinted chocolate! Warm pewter would also be stunning! I almost ordered a warm pewter mini Emilia but changed to a tinted wine mini chiara at the last moment! The process is a lot of fun and one of the favorite parts for me! I hate the waiting once the order is placed but once the bag arrives, I am then once again ecstatic! Can't wait to see what you order!

shessica- welcome to Ignes and the world of so many options, great customer service, and you customize it! I think a midi sophia in tinted wine, aubergine, or cognac are superb! Where would you want stud placement? You will not regret it if you opt for suede lining!

Welcome Shessica!

That Midi Sofia is great, but I second the Emilia or Mini Emilia recomendations. I think that style more easily fits your wants. It has studs standard, the braid is an interesting detail IMO, that can be kept simple with the same leather ( Beautiful Chocolate Vintage with Shine Mini Emilia is here! Cherry Red Mini Emilia is Here!! Yay! ) or mix it up with added leathers (IRL Mini Emelia Aubergine/Gunmetal Reveal Mini Emilia in Glossy Ink Blue w a Tricolored Braid Tinted Wine Mini Emelia - very ghetto fabulous). It also has a single strap wo the added expense of making the change to the Sofia.

You're going to have fun with the swatches you requested. I recently some of the same swatches.

Warm Pewter (186)

Taupe (057)
This is a bit structured if you want a slouchy bag

Pearlized Bordeaux (770) Tinted Wine (203)
These are both amazing. The Pearlized Bordeux has a glint that is infused into the leather

Pearlized Charcoal (729) this is a pretty structured leather Blue Pearlized Emilia is here!

Wine - Exterior Suede (913)
I think I might have the first swatch of this. It has a bit of orange to it, not a true Wine IMO. The website calls it structured. I'm not sure if it's as much structured as thick.

Light Grey (129)
Have you seen the 734 Ice Grey? I like it a little more than the 129, JMO though
Ice Grey Virginia
Camel Sofia, Ice Grey Ormala and Suede Veronica preview pics
Ignes Leathers/Swatches (pics only)

Cognac (132)
Tinted leathers are truly amazingly soft

Aubergine (074)
from the swatches I received, this is the most structured of the ones you've listed. But Irainei has a Mini E in this I linked above, so it can work in the Hobo style, it just depends what you're looking for.

For lining...go for suede. The unpatterened suedes are absolutely TDF. Amazingly soft and pettable.

Have fun with it!

I have the same thoughts. The pearlized bordeaux is supposed to be a lovely leather, according to those that have seen it in person (I have not) and that would be a nice year round color, along with wine or chocolate.

I too am loving the look of the pearlized bordeaux. I also like the mini emilia style - will let you know how much when I get my first one in a few weeks! Enjoy designing your bag it's almost too many choices, isn't it?

thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions! i don't particularly care for prominent exterior zippers, so the Emilia is not the bag for me. i just love the size and architectural detail for the Midi Sophia (though I wonder if I should just get the normal size, as I'm 5'8" with a larger frame), so i'm pretty sure that's the style i'll be getting. I do love the Virginia, too - but I didn't see that style on the website anymore, so I had to wonder if it was discontinued. (?)

i wasn't going to go with with suede interior at first, but since everyone has been so adamant about it, i simply must! =)

sillykilly, thanks for your swatch pics! i definitely do like ice gray better than light gray - esp. on that Virginia! TDF!

am i right that the sophia can be customized with two exterior colors? that sounds like something i might try! rather that two different colors, though, i think i would keep the colors in the same family, but with some textural difference between them. any other thoughts there?

^ The Virginia is available by order, but not on the site. They still can make it.

RE: Size. The full size Sofia is BIG. Duranie70 had a full size and sold it. I think she is close to your height. Maybe PM her for details?

You can customize and do two tone, but keep in mind the return policy w/ customizations like that. I have never done a two tone bag and it can be pretty if done right. Some of the ladies here are good w/ color combos, but I am not one of them (I believe I'm partially color blind and so does my mother!). So, I can't help there at all!

You're welcome Shessica, glad they were helpful!

The fullsize Sofia is thought by a lot to be a bit too large, so I'd probably suggest the midi. Just as an fyi, but the Emilia or Mini E can be ordered wo the zipper.

I like the idea of tone on tone with textural differences. On my short list is Tinted Wine and Wine Crinkle Patent (might be OOS) Mini Sofia. What about Tinted Chocolate and Chocolate Exterior Suede, or one of the greys and grey suede? I would either get good pics from Maria or wait for swatches to make sure the leathers compliment each other....

i am still waiting for swatches, but i keep going back to cognac, so i think that might be my choice.

wondering, however, about which color suede interior to choose? i'm not too fond of the choices on the website- i want a surprise pop of color on the inside that nicely complements the rich tones of the cognac - so i wanted your suggestions! Purple? Blue? Emerald green? After I narrow down some choices, I'll check with Maria about their availability... TIA!

Interior suede selection seems to vary quite a bit w Ignes, so I'd suggest finding out what's in stock first. I know it's not a pop of color, but I have the beige suede, and I think it would look really nice w the Cognac. I know not exciting...but it will compliment it well.

Today I took my first look at an Ignes bag - me likey! So much so that I just put in an offer on a Sunflower Emilia with blue suede lining on Bonanzle. I love the shape and the subtle studs on the front. If it is as good as it looks, I'll definitely be back.

I love the green suede lining pic!
