oh yes!! both bf and i have kitchen island...and when we visit each other...we both just automatically sat at the island and talk or even watch TV.....it's such a center piece of the apartment.

A lot cleaner and tidier than it is now! hehehe I've moved the kettle and Nespresso machine out from the cupboard on the right to the corner where the knife block was! Closer to the sink!
We've put another bar stool and changed the dining table to a square marble 8 seater! I can't stand glass table tops! Keeping it clean drove me mad!

maybe if i get brave later i will post pics as i have a very "industrial" kind of kitchen....big stainless sinks and countertops, and open storage spaces. my house is a loft that is very old, and was designed, as a project, by one of the design departments at the college here, hence it is very interesting looking, but not functional enough.

Gorgeous! Love the contrast of the white and the dark hardwood floors! I have a glass table top, so I understand the madness about keeping it streak-free LOL!

That looks great, your floor is also amazing!!! I love how the table top and the sides of the kitchen island are from the same material.

This thread is very inspiring. Two weeks ago we ripped out our entire kitchen - we even ripped out the plaster and the floor and the ugly dropped ceiling. It was a hollow cave... actually, it mostly still is. But new wallboard is up, it is painted, and the floor is prepped for new tile. Tuesday cabinet intallation begins, althoug it may take up to a week and half to two weeks after that to have the countertops and floor completed. And then we will have to replace 4 doors and put up new baseboards and trim.

The kitchen was last redone in 1958, and we have lived with it since moving into the house over 10 years ago. And most of the previous work that was done was done by a friend of a friend sort of thing, so very little of it was done well. It is I will post before and after pics when we are done!

Here is my kitchen back when I purchased the place. Not much has changed; my dining table is French Provincial, and I have a kitchenaid on the counter.

One day, a new stove and fridge. One day should probably be much sooner than now.
