lol we haven't done the tiles yet. that's what walls look like when you remove old tiles from the surface.

Wow, you are doing a great job with the house. I cannot imagine doing so much of the work yourself. I am such a big chicken that I hired people to do virtually everything. I only have to stress over scheduling (which is PITA enough! We're still waiting on doors, baseboards and final trim), although DH did the plumbing. I love your choice for flooring. And while I don't have first-hand experience, everyone tells me that doing a tile backsplash yourself isn't that hard (I don't believe them, although I have faith that other people could do-it-themselves).

I'm on it we have found lots of different tiles we like. I'm loving the "brick" look when you don't lay them directly above of eachother but half way like bricks kwim?? but I'm still deciding if I want a colour tiles that will have a lot of contrast or something to blend in. I'm on my way home now so I'll post pics of the "finished" kitchen soon so you can give me your ideas :) I don't find grouting very hard I just hated removing the old grout but I won't have to do that this time so fingers crossed I can just cut them to size and stick them to the wall.
we don't have million dollar decorator here. do you have any pics of the floor they have used??
I'm sorry to hear about the way things have gone with your work. if your a true shopper like me I totally understand how hard it can be to cut back on spending lol. but just remember it won't always be this way. I've lived it all, when I was little we had a big house then my parents split and a few years later we were almost going to lose our unit because of other expences. then my mum had to re mortgage our unit (longggggg story) and now she is not doing so well so we had to move to a house as we had 3 flights of stairs to get upto our unit which she couldn't cope with anymore.

money is so strange it can be here today and gone tomorrow and when you feel you don't have any, thingscan only get better. when I was having a hard time coping with the stress of everything in my life a good friend told me that the universe will never hand you more than you can cope with. I know it doesn't sound like much but I remembered it and said it to myself everyday and sure enough everything changed for the better and I got my silver lining. you will too. just stay strong and remember to take things one day at a time.

if you don't have much work can you do other jobs to get some cash??
i would probably do, a grey tone tile, or maybe a lighter sandy beige or something to tie in your bamboo floors. i love the look of subway tiles. maybe you can add a strip of irridescent glass tiles to make it pop just a little bit.

maybe you can do something like this?

this is an example of a mary mcdonald floor..

you should check out "pinterest", you can get so many ideas from that site and keep all your inspiration in one place. it's a bit like tumbler.

awww, thanks for your super kind words, i'm truly truly lucky, my husband is such a wonderful man and i know that with him on my team we can get through anything. anyway, this thread is about your house so enough of my OT!!!!

LOL. I was hoping they weren't some faux painting technique you were doing and were really proud of, because they kinda look like tiny butt prints!

my room has a walk in as well as a built in. we removed both the shelves in the walk in and the entire built in. I will be putting a free standing closet in the place of the built in but am still unsure what to do with the walk in space. after the shelves came out I spakfilled the wall and sanding it back before painting with primer. I'm thinking of getting a light put in and turning it into a dressing room but ATM its just filled with boxes lol

thanks hautemama. the thing I love about doing it myself is that I can do it exactly how I want it. when we get the trades men in they all give you this speach about what they would do or how you "should" do it. kwim?? we had a kitchen guy come out who said he wants to remove the breakfast bar wall and turn the space into an island but hang on a sec that's not what we wanted lol so he didnt see us again.

also because I'm doing lots myself I can take my time more to think about what I want to do instead of rushing in to pick something.

wish me luck with the tiling I'm still going to have a go at it hehehe

I kist have to see if anyone around me sells them.

the glass tiles look great I'll keep an out for something like it. and that floor is amazing. im going to google more now because it looks great maybe I can get more bathroom ideas. I'll also be sure to take a look at pinterest. thank you so much for your help.

Betty. I just took a look at other pics in the link you posted. I love all the claw foot bath tubs. I have always wanted one but mum insists they old look good in really big bathrooms with high ceilings. I saw one 2 weeks ago that's burgundy outside, cream inside and gold feet I fell in love right away. it wouldn't go with anything I'm planing to do in the bathroom but love it so much I wouldn't care do you have clients wanting them today??

i've had a couple clients want them. they are quite hard to come by around here. i love them.

if you did grey tiles with burgundy and gold feet. that would look so soo chic. i find when i second guess my decisions i always end up not liking what i've done but if i just go with my first initial reaction, it turns out great!

a dressing room would be lovely. it could be your very own girl-cave! if you could fit a gorgeous full length mirror and a little make up table, and maybe even a comfy chair, that would be a perfect little space!

yeah they are not very popular here so it's also hard to find them. prob is it's cream colored on the inner side of the tube which would class with the grey tiles and white vanity maybe I should get an all white one?? I think the bathroom is big enough for one but do you need really high ceilings or is my mum just being really old fashioned??

we never actually take baths lol but I just LOVE the look
