Happy to hear you are going with laminate flooring. I would go with laminate/wood flooring over carpet anyday. I need new floors in my formal front rooms. Hate the ugly builders carpet that is way to old. The previous owners put a nice berber carpet in the family room but I would love clay tile to give it a tropical feel. Good luck. The laminate wood will completetly change the feel and look of the room.

hi ladies! i have some pictures with updates :)

We have replaced the carpet with laminate flooring from the home depot. It is called "blackened maple" and it is so gorgeous in person! We are going to continue this flooring into the kitchen as well.

We compared pricing with Menard's, Lowe's and smaller flooring distributors and surprisingly Home Depot had the best price.

Anyway, here are the pictures! Enjoy!

wow it is gorgeous! as much as a i appreciate the authenticity of real wood, i am always much more attracted to the laminate versions. they have become amazing, great quality, and you can't beat the prices!! i think it will look amazing when it continues into the kitchen.

i am partly of the camp that a graphite accent wall, or something in the charcoal family can give great depth! or maybe a darker wallpaper on an accent wall?

that's really pretty!!

if you would have went with the tan carpeting i would have suggested a light blue or grey-ish blue or a light sage green color.

Thanks ladies! I love dark wood or laminate in this case and I really like how it kind of has a worn look/feel.

Will update with more pictures this weekend of flooring in kitchen!

Looking for some ideas--the couch (which is the SOs and is not my cup of tea) is a forest green color... looking to do an accent wall--any color ideas?

any chance you could reupholster it? it would be a shame to make the accent wall coordinate with a couch you don't like!

^ I agree! I would see if it would be possible to change sofas or at least cover the one you have before you make longer-lasting changes to the room to coordinate with something you dislike. Or perhaps you guys could agree on a colour scheme for a new sofa you plan to get within the next couple of years and find an accent colour that might compliment both the green and whatever new piece you might like to get in the future.

Here is an update--the flooring running into the kitchen.

We would like to change the cabinets--and are thinking white with eventually granite or quartz grey counter tops..
Similiar to the second pic..

Your new floor and paint color look really great. I like your inspiration picture and I agree that white cabinets would look really good with your new floor. Can't wait for more pics!

Update time!

Walls are painted, window molding is done.. floor is installed.

I purchased an area rug and we put the couch in. I need to make a trip to ikea and get a media storage/entertainment center and coffee table and side tables......

I feel like we are living in a construction zone!

The kitchen cabinets are out now getting repainted in "antique white" and the *lovely* brick wall paper gets to come down!! Ill take some pics of the kitchen in case you guys can help me with that too :)
