i am putting in radiant heating for my bathroom and my architect estimates that it will be $500++ or so for a small NYC bathroom.

Thank you!

My DH thinks he can install it but I want to look into it farther.

I just wanted to make a quick note about using area rugs on heated floors, since no one mentions it (not even most flooring professionals).
Area rugs should not be used on a heated floor, the rug traps in the heat and moisture which causes damage to the floor and to the rug. Heated floors do work best in the bathroom and kitchen, but other rooms can have a warm floor with a nice area rug.
I hope that you enjoy your heated floors

Yes, absolutely! When I lived on the east coast we had them in the bathrooms and kitchen. LOVED it during winter. When we moved to the west coast I inquired about installing this and people shot me this look like I was crazy or something. Sorry, I just like to be warm and cozy even in areas that don't get snow!

We live in Korea, and while its a bit expensive to run... Its awesome. I love the heated flooring. The cat loves it too.

But your lifestyle also effects whether its worth it or not. For bathrooms, definitely worth it no matter what. If you have pets, they'll enjoy it too.

But for living rooms and stuff... If you don't spend much time sitting on the floor or you have a high bed... or if you prefer carpets and rugs over hardwoods, tiles and such... Its not a good choice.

Worth it! Where I live, most of the time it's cold outside. So with the marble tiles heated, I love walking barefoot around the house, especially in winter.

I thought I had decided against the heated flooring, but now I'm rethinking.
