I've been pondering a new Picotin (PM or MM) and I'm not sure if it's the right bag for me. Generally, I'm a structured bag sort of gal but I've fallen for this little gem pretty hard!
I'm hoping that you can help me figure out if this bag will hold its shape over time. I get a little worried when I look at some "worn-in" Picotins that have slouched and gaped at the sides.
In your opinion(s), does the bag hold its shape better in a smaller size? Or should I be looking for an alternative leather (like barenia from a reseller, etc.)? Or... maybe an insert to help maintain the bucket shape?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Please and thank you
Many of the Picotins these days are in clemence and they are very slouchy and unstructured. Have you seen one in person? If you like structured bags, you should probably try on a Picotin before buying. I owned a Picotin MM for a day (before reselling it) and it collapsed into itself when set down. There are lots of pics in the clubhouse thread, in case you haven't seen it: http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes-cl...in-421880.html
Cosmopolitan - Thank you for the suggestion and the link! I have been running through the clubhouse pictures, which has led to my current obsession. I will definitely try one on in the next couple of weeks. My weekends have been packed with summer plans, so I haven't had a chance to pop into my local store. Based on your review, I think that clemence may not be in the cards for me :)
pursecrzy - I have been trying to downsize my purses since I've been known to carry everything AND the kitchen sink in them. I might need to get the PM to discourage this behavior. But your comment gives me hope (and fuels my obsession). Thank you!
My pico, an MM clemence, is slouchy, but I don't see it as a negative. The contents are not exposed; it sags inward when it sits on a seat. Due to rigid and wide base, it has never tumbled off the car seat to the floor. I'm 5'9 and opted for MM because it looked better proportionately compared to a PM. To go larger would have been sheer overkill for my needs. HTH
I just got an GM and i also like the MM i think both are fine but being clemence they do slouch but only when sitting bag down not when carrying it but this is the style of this casual bag, love mine but try them first hope you are lucky as there seems to be a shortage of these lovely bags around when looking for mine this was the only one in the uk good luck hope you get what you want soon
jmen - I'm 5'9" myself and I wasn't quite sure if the PM would fit my frame or not. I just love this style in this little size... must be my petite envy coming out! Thank you for the particulars on the type of slouch, I've actually had rigid bags fall off the car seat when I'm commuting because they couldn't absorb the shock of my quick city braking!
ladyjane 963 - I didn't realize they were getting scarce. I was thinking of going the reseller route to get a particular color/leather combination. It sounds like that might be my best bet!
After I wrote and went about grub shopping, I thought more about the pico and ironically, the thought was well if it was more rigid, it would likely go tumbling over.
The PM is really small. When i tried one at the boutique a few years back, I looked like Alice in her large form with a tiny, tiny purse. I ended up adopted the MM xxx. It is a fab grab and go piece, easy accessibility to contents. Whether it has a lock or not is not essential -- the lock is more show than functionality as the purse is still not sealed with purse.
I actually prefer the shape of a slightly slouchy Picotin. My MM in clemence has just the right amount of slouch inward at the top without the sagging bottom that I sometimes see in preowned GM or TGMs in clemence. This is actually the one and only bag that I don't prefer in barenia, since it is stiffer and looks more like a cube than a pyramid. And the MM holds a ton.
Thats the shape i actually like about mine that it sort of folds into itself at the top giving it a better shape and closes over more at top too, why not give your store a call and see if they have any to go have a look at, good luck with your search
