Hi Srq! It's awesome to have a guy here!

KB, Most, but not all, of the scarves on ebay are legit. There are a few telltale signs if they aren't, and if you post the scarf in the Authenticate This thread, our experts know those signs and will verify the authenticity. You bring up a great point: always post ANYTHING H in the Authenticate This Hermes thread, even scarves! There are tons of fakes of certain designs of scarves.

Razor & Candace - thanks! Vous êtes trop gentilles! I enjoyed both of your stories as well...I think it is really cool there is a member of the armed forces on this site, who also happens to like H.

Sarah, thanks for the information. I never really heard
anything about fake scarves on ebay, but you never know.
It's always good to get anything authenticated before purchasing
from a reseller. :)

Hah - my dad likes to say that I have been 35 since I was 16.

I actually really enjoy reading about you all, your experiences (was just reading the confessional thread)...seems like you are all human, with problems and issues of you own...and H is very attainable if one is intelligent and motivated.

Thanks SRQ! I will say that the work I put in definitely has earned me more than a few H bags by now...so I will be very pumped when I can get one!!!

Count me in! I'm Mary and right now I can only dream of buying a vintage Kelly, not to mention to buy a brand new Kelly or Birkin!
I only have a twilly that my lovely BF bought me last Christmas and I love it, I want to add some more because it's the only accessory I can buy, other things like wallets and agenda are way too pricey for me and I prefer saving those money towards a bag. I hate the fact that you are forced to buy a lot of things at Hermes before you can even look at a Birkin, that's not fair IMO. If I have saved my money and can buy it, why not?
It will be years before I can search for a 50's or 60's Kelly, because I work as an employee and don't earn much money, plus I have to pay a monthly mortgage for my house, now I need to find a new car and I want to get married too. It's a lot of money...
My dream is a gold or potiron togo Kelly/Birkin, I'm afraid this will remain a dream...

These lists don't match and I don't know why

Mary, as much as I like the small leather accessories, want
a CDC bracelet, a few scarves, charms, etc.
That philosophy kind of bothers me as well. ssh.

I do realize H prefers to keep the gawky OMG!BIRKIN
types out of store, and I'm sure they worry about
people buying bags for the resellers out there, but if
I fell into just the right amount of money needed to acquire my
Bolide, should I have to buy an agenda, scarf, etc.
first just to prove that I'd be a loyal H customer?

regarding being forced to buy things......

^^ I am certain that this is not always true....while it is more often that birkins are offered to known customers, I think some demonstated appreciation of the brand is as important as the small purchases, even more so. I was offered a birkin after buying only once scarf...and exotic birkin at that. I think it depends entirely on the store, the SA, the inventory, and the individuals.

But one cannot demonstrate an appreciation for the brand by walking in and saying "do you have any birkins," KWIM? It may take a few visits, and of course if you are going to spend time with an SA looking at leather goods, its nice to buy a little something, fragrance, a scarf (not that I think those are "little things"--I realize that they are expensive as well!!). And those things are lovely to have. But this is not necessary, absolutely not.

But by no means is it required that you buy a bunch of things you dont need...you can get offered a birkin at several stores by being in the right place at the right time....but I have seen people come into my store and act like complete jerks asking for a birkin and then walking right out when they are told none are available...Me, I can spend 3 hours in there just drooling, and may only walk out with a scarf ring....

but I get offered bags pretty regularly......

^^That being said, I think the situation may be different in other countries....I am speaking strictly of the US stores I have been to......

I seem to pick up things at different stores when I or DH travel...would it make a difference just wearing something like a scarf and ring when you walk in?

I love exotics and figure I will never get offered (or be able to afford) something at my "transit" stores at this rate!

I agree with what you are saying. Last winter, a friend and I went to an H store and I bought quite a few small leather items. She then asked to see a Kelly but they said a Birkin might be better for her since she likes large bags. They brought out a Birkin and she bought it on the spot. It was our first time in the store and my friend hadn't bought anything at all nor had she even thought she would be buying a Birkin that day.

I think they did see that I was nuts over H so that probably helped and we had been in there for about an hour oohing and ahhing over everything!

I'm thinking that there is a subtlety to it.... a certain confluence of factors that clicks with the SA to make him/her offer a Birkin. In large cities where there are tons of people coming in every day looking for Birkins I think it is perhaps different than in a smaller city where this just doesn't happen.

My Evelyne was my first H bag in 2006. There is no H store in my town. So, I called several stores, asked about them, found what I wanted and the store sent it to me. I had bought nothing at all from them or any H store in many years. All the stores I contacted were wonderful. They sent pictures of the bags that were available and were very nice and helpful. One store, which I settled on to be the one I would work with, searched to find the color I was looking for and got it for me.

I did focus on stores in the southern U.S., hoping for southern hospitality! I was really intimidated when I began the process but I soon found that it was a lovely experience!

I think if you walked in to the store and saw a Bolide you liked, that you wouldn't have to buy anything else at all. That's just my "guess".
