![]() My story is, I initially wanted a 28cm black box sellier Kelly with GHW from the store but brand new box leather scared me off so I tried to look for alternatives (30cm black togo Birkin or 28cm black togo Kelly with GHW) but in the end something didn't feel right. I even got as far as saving halfway but I started spending it on other H items and I recently went on a trip and suddenly all the money went. During that time, I was trying to figure what bag I wanted to complete my collection. I told myself that this would be the last bag I get for many years to come. At first I considered the Lanvin Kansas, Chanel PST and even the TPM Garden Party Twilly. But in my heart I knew that I needed a Kelly so I recently came to the conclusion that I want a vintage 28cm retourne black box Kelly with GHW. I initially preferred the 28cm in sellier but I read some posts from Tamarind and she has me convinced that 28cm retourne is the perfect combination for me. After purchasing 3 twillies, a pochette, a carrè, Ulysses notebook, black and gold clic-clac, 2 Kelly Double Tours, a Constance belt and 4 perfumes (Hiris, Kelly Caleche, Rouge and Un Jardin sur le Nil) I have built a good relationship with some of the SA's in the Sydney store but I still don't feel like I'm a part of the family so to speak. I buy less from Chanel and get treated much better there! But I wouldn't want it any other way. I hope to purchase my last (and first H) bag by the end of the year. |

I have an idea. How about we start a thread - no chit chat - where we create a sort of "collage" of our dream bags, that we are working towards. With only our screen name and a photo. When our dream is realized we can each take a modeling photo to add. It always makes the realization of a dream so much sweeter, when you have like minded cohorts to share it with. I think it will also help with the visualization and staying focused. Anybody interested ?

Sometimes the bag you want just finds you all by itself. My black box Kelly did just that. I bought her on a very bad, very sad day, one of the worst of my life. I was walking and just passed Hermes and decided to go in on a whim, thinking nothing bad could happen in a place like that. And when I went inside, the Kelly was sitting right there on a shelf. I took it as a sign and I took her home. But...since this is a thread about having to wait and save to get Hermes, I should also add that I came to Hermes relatively late in life. I didn't get a Kelly until I was almost 40 years old, having worked and saved to buy a place and start a family, etc. And I can honestly say, good things come to those who wait. |

Can it also include other H purchases? That way, we can reach it quicker? Such as a belt someone is saving for, then they model it. Or a key chain someone would like, so they then get it and model it?x

That is such a beautiful story. I guess it was meant to be.Do you happen to have any pics of this bag for inspiration? The wait is the killer but I guess it's worth it in the end. I'm glad you got what you wanted after sacrificing for the sake of your family.

What a super thread. Hi I have recently come to tpf and am an older lady although in my head I am still 30! Did not really think about designer bags until I started seeing Victoria B with hers. Now I am hooked. Tried to get one on e-bay and was scammed, luckily managed to get my money back and it was only a couple of hundred. Now realise you cannot get a bargain there so will start to save and take a trip to Paris when I have the money, even if I have to go on a zimmer frame! My 17 year old thinks I am getting obsessed andI probably am but i have never hankered after anything designer before and only live in a modest house and have a Ford KA(which I love) I would love a 35/40 cm Black Birkin but it must have silver hardware as I do not like gold. Having been on this site I would also love an Indigo 37cm Bolide. If I continue to visit this forum I may fall in love with other bags!!!! I shall continue to work- luckily at a job I love(Infant school teacher) and try to stash some cash for my dream. I hope that we all get our dream bags and to all you lucky girls just keep sharing , I'm just a little bit envious but I do enjoy sharing your dreams with you. Love to us all xxx

I was a little hesitant to come forward but everyone is so brave here that I just had to join (WARNING: LONG!)
I love Hermes bags... big and small... from fourre touts to bolides, I love them all, and I have since I was a teenager. (I am now 24) My dream birkin is blue jean epsom- 30 cm with palladium HW and a black fjord 35 cm. I would also love a colorful bolide and a 30 cm lindy... (The wants know no end... )The thing is, I have wonderful wonderful parents who spoil me and would buy me the stars next to the moon if I asked. Even more so now because I was in a serious car accident last summer that restricted me to a wheelchair for 2.5 months, and it is a miracle that I came away alive. It also helps that my mother is in her own hunt for a birkin as well. But the conscientious side of me feels extremely guilty about letting them get me a Birkin-- especially right now since I know that they paid for all my medical bills (which let's just say amount to roughly the price for a 50 cm travel HAC, after the price increase) because they understand and sympathize that I don't want to sue the driver of the accident-- she is my best friend from when I was 10, and she definitely does not need anymore grief right now (there were 2 deaths that resulted from this accident, as well as other serious injuries, while I have luckily recovered from my injuries and am now walking normally and slowly beginning to run/do more vigorous exercise... so I am choosing to be grateful and not hateful) I have told my family that a Birkin not something I HAVE to have, just something I like to admire-- which is true, I am lucky to even be alive today, everything else is just a bonus. Also, I am in the process of going back to school for a higher degree, and my goal is to get my H bags myself with my own money once I become a professional-- I think there will be more satisfaction that way. Hopefully I can get one for my mom too... if she hasn't already gotten one by then!

I'm Amy and I'm 35. We do have the money to go pick out a Lindy or Kelly, no credit. However, I keep telling myself we need to save every dime for DS. He needs some new sensory equipments (swings and stuff like that) which would cost well over $1,000. I also am not good at saving. That's an understatement--I SUCK at saving I get these little ideas stuck in my head and there's no having them go away (i.e., my latest obsession is a quality home espresso machine & grinder, which run around $1K). How can I possibly expect to save up for H if I'm out there buying other expensive stuff? Candance--my other obsession is makeup, so I can totally relate to Chanel!Thank God DH has a really great job. For now, we can pay for our son's therapies (tons of families' go bankrupt over this) and still have some leftover for savings/investments/mad money. I am also lucky to have a supportive DH (this year it will be 14 years...wow, where does the time go?). These are the things that TRULY matter. As far as my grail goes, I am really open. I thought for sure it would be a Kelly, then I went and tried on a Lindy. I still love the Kelly more, but know the Lindy would be more practical for my lifestyle. Either a 28 sellier or 32 retourne and I am open to many colors. Lindy perhaps in swift or evergrain. I am also completely open to finding a well-loved and pre-owned bag. I actually fell in love with a 32 sellier noisette on ebay, but thought the 32 sellier might be too big on me (I'm only 5 feet tall!). This is a GREAT thread, RBB. I currently own one scarf, 2 twillies and would love to get my hands on that horn scarf ring! |
