Hello all,
I'm saving up for my first Birkin too! I have admired Hermes bags for a long time however never thought it would be possible to own one. After much thought, I realized that in the last couple years, I have spent an equal amount of money buying the new "IT" bag from various designers. I also tend to buy little things here and there that are totally unnecessary.
If I start a purse ban and not indulge in every fashion whim, I could own my Birkin in no time!
I am currently on the waitlist for a Gold 35 Birkin in Epsom. I have been told the wait will be 2 years. It is a long time but it will be worth it. Now ..how do I convince the DH?

That's what I'm trying to figure out. But I think I'll just put my name on the waiting list and figure it out when the time arrives. In the meantime, I will buy a Herbag and some accessories while I wait. Good luck with your wait! It's exciting, isn't it?

Good luck with your wait too!! Very exciting! I figure it's like a wedding engagement. My first purchase of a mini agenda is the engagement now comes the planning and saving until the big day....

duna, I'm sorry that happened. I hope you get your new
bag soon. Of course, soon can be a six month wait.
But I am concerned that your bag came back damaged, sure
accidents happen, but it always makes me nervous.

I thought I might update my H aspirations...as it has been ~2 months since I last wrote (page 6 of this thread) and I've been to several H stores in London, Paris, and Florence...

Looks like the only H I will be buying this year will be a) from the paris sale in july (who knows what could be there?), b) a tie for my dad, and/or c) something for mother dearest. I really still would like something exotic...small and exotic that is , but I just don't feel like spending upwards of $2000 on one thing...as my clothing, shoe, and accessory stocks are dismal, and in desperate need of update. I'm feeling very optomistic about Bottega Veneta though...Prada not so much, and you can forget Louis Vuitton.

I must admit (albeit sheepishly), that I am about a 5 on the jealousy scale (from 1 to 10) about you, Matt...and your upcoming something. However, being the diplomatic, gracious person that I am, I would like to congradulate you!! It must be very exciting!! I am however not a 10 on that scale because a birkin will probably never be on my list of must-haves. Nevertheless...enjoy it!

Exactly.....Up until now, I thought the H spa, and Paris in particular, could work miracles, and it never dawned on me that they could ruin a bag: so, from now on, I'll only send bags to the spa if it's ABSOLUTELY necessary, and not just to get freshened up!!!!

ugh..now I need more help with the wait! I don't know if I could do it! I am browsing eBay every day tempted to max out my credit card! I would really prefer to buy it in store to estabish a relationship with a SA though...right?

H. I'd rather own the bag outright, if I had to pay
interest on a H bag - it would cost me almost
double the retail. I'm too afraid to risk even charging
an agenda at this point. I'd rather wait for graduation. :)

I agree kelly_birkin! No point in maxing out the cc, when you will be paying so much $£$ in interest!!

It would be easy to do it though, buy now get wonderful birkin now and think later! Lol, but it is so much better to save up and just go into H knowing you can actually afford it, kwim?

Yes I definatley want to build up a rapport with a SA. It makes a much nicer shopping experience!
I have actually stopped buying from LV since my SA left, i just don't enjoy buying from rude people!!

^^ I agree with above sentiments. No charging unless you can pay it back the next month. We'll support you here. Just come up with a workable plan to get it.

And Luva Pug, I agree with not buying anything else and just save towards Hermes. LV is definitely out for me. But I am debating whether I should buy Chanel flaps. I want three in the main neutral colours. I mean, I can't afford the H. "equivalents" of Chanel flaps now and I "need them." But then that puts me a year off from getting a big H. bag (Birkin or Kelly). What do you guys think?

^^ Don't know if this helps you, but I'm selling my Chanel flap bag to add to my H savings. For some reason, even Chanel has lost its luster for me now that I've discovered H. I'm nuts!

PB, imo if you want H just get H! Lol!
Yes Chanel flaps are tdf but i believe it is tough to find them for less than £1000/ $2000 unless you want to go down the 2nd hand route. Even with second hand flaps that still adds up to around $3000, thats a large chunk off your H bag!!

Like i know it is sooo hard to think, 'i won't buy anything until i get Hermes' but i think in the long run it will be much better. I sware since the other night i really have no other 'feelings' for other bags! (Except the ivoire speedy which i have wanted for ages) but even that i am thinking 'hmm that could be one handle of my birkin!!! Lol!!

Thats how i think of things, almost cut the bag up in my mind and stick a price on each part!!

You have to be strong!!! No problems with small purchases to keep you going, but i think bags, we will all have to say no to, in order to get our HGs!!
