I feel your pain. It's like an itch you can't scratch. My vote is - just go ahead and buy it when you're in London on the 1st - (that's almost the end of the year) - hopefully DH will understand! oh wait - you weren't taking a vote

Default How exactly does one buy a Birkin?

Hello Hermes ladies! I am new to tPF and joined because of - like everyone else here- loooovvve of everything Hermes.

At the risk of sounding naive (and I was afraid to ask this in the main forum for fear of sounding stupid), how does one buy a Birkin? I mean, even if (emphasis on if) one has the $$$, I'm sure you don't walk into an Hermes store and ask for one. Is it that you first have to drop approximately 3k in "other" items, and then coolly ask if there is a Birkin in the back room (as that "Bringing Home the Birkin" book suggests)? Or that you have to strike up a friendship with the SA? Or that you ask to be waitlisted? Or you order one, in my case, a 32 cm rouge garrance or vif in clemence?

Thanks in advance for your expert advice!! Love to all who love Hermes! Ciao!

^I have no idea as well. From what I gather it's just kind of a luck of the draw, maybe you'll get lucky, maybe you won't, maybe an SA will like you. it's all a toss up.

But i am in the same situation, I want to know how to get one, and if possible, custom. I have a SA in New York I always buy from, even if I see it in a store in CA, I'll phone in my SA in NY and get it form her, in hopes of building a relationship. And i love her to DEATH, but i don't even know if we're close enough for her to put in an order for me.

But for the time being, i'm saving up for a birkin. yaaayy!! Hopefully, if all goes as planned, i'll have the funds within a year or so, and perhaps by the time that rolls around the economy wont suck so much.

I'm in the same situation as you. Except for me it I know I love Kellys way more than Birkins. So, even though I still want one Birkin, I can put it off for awhile since I love Kellys way more and want to build that collection first.

I was supposed to be on an "other" purse ban, but I broke down and put myself on a waiting list for a black Chanel flap. I know I'm not supposed to. but it's a classic I want. I hope to get my Kelly next year (my family had some unforeseen difficulties this year). I can't wait 'til I have an actual Kelly in my hands. I am so in with all things H ... (and that one flap, lol). Next on my list for H is a twilly (I'll get one next week) and an enamel bracelet ( will get in January). I'll let you know when I do!

before Kelly_Birkin looks for me again (which I think is sweet), I just want to say that I have moved to another project which is more demanding and stressful than my last project.

If you remember my previous rants about not having anyone to talk to at the office, now I think the opposite will happen. people will be talking my ears off because now I'm the administrator of test environments. if there are troubles, issues and deployments to servers that needs to be made, I'll be the person they'd be looking for.

Joseph Conrad (or more specifically, the narrator in Heart Of Darkness) said, 'I don't like work... but I like what is in work - the chance to find yourself. Your own reality - for yourself, not for others - which no other man can ever know.'

While I know that for sure, I would curse this job every so often because I've had this role before and I know what it's like, I welcome the possibility of knowing myself even more. I also think there's some fulfillment gained by being responsible for something, even if they are just inanimate objects such as servers.

With that being said, expect that I'd post very little in this forum. I'd be very busy.

As for the quest for my bag, rest assured that I am working on it at the moment and I have taken concrete actions regarding the damn bag. I can't discuss it right now because there are some details I'm still ironing out,and the story behind it is too tedious to discuss. I hope that by next month I'd get a favorable answer.

If not, there are already some people who have offered their help and I may need to travel once again.

take care everyone.

p.s.
for those who have just joined this thread, I was the 'homo in distress' and had the history of hogging this thread a few months ago. lol

my problem is i love clothes as much as i do H. it's been almost two months and my savings for my 3rd lindy is zilch. and i still have a leather jacket and a pair of shoes i want to get and that's already 1/5th the price of a lindy. all i need is to save hard for 5 months and i'll have the money for a lindy but but but. perhaps i should let my husband keep my credit card for the next 5 months.

littleblackbag, i think you can spring for a perfume, or else the waiting will be just too hard!
