I want to make this rule crystal clear to everyone who chooses to participate in the Hermes subforum.

If you suspect that someone has posted or purchased a fake bag, DO NOT contact that member. Contact either myself, Kellybag, Megs or Vlad and let us look into it and we will decide if that member should be contacted. We go to great lengths to make sure that we get several opinions from our resident experts before ever contacting a member about a questionable bag.

There is good reason for this rule. We have had some very well-meaning members wrongly accuse other members' bags of being fake, and as a result, many people's feelings have been truly hurt- and for no good reason! These are JUST BAGS and it isn't worth upsetting someone or sending another person into hysterics because you feel the need to point out that their bag might be fake.

I ask that everyone follow the proper protocol in reporting those bags that you think are fake so that we can handle the matter discreetly and respectfully. Thank you!

This is one of the best rules tPF has!!!! There are too many opinions being given w/o the knowledge and expertise in the Hermes product line to substantiate the opinion!!!!
There is no hierarchy on the Hermes Forum. Just people who love Hermes interacting with one another, enjoying the product.

Good idea for making this a sticky. I agree Jag, there is no point hurting others' feelings over a bag with snide/ backhanded remarks.

Thanks. Mea culpa in advance if the answer to my question is already posted some place. These "resident H experts" that authenticate, is there a certain criteria here at tpf that must be met for them to be qualified as such? Is their expertise certified via outside special university or trade classes and or experience, or do they just learn on their own from SAs and by examining H product?

No, just members who have a history and hands-on experience with Hermes. There is no special criteria- just trust and respect that has been earned over time. Many of these experts generously and graciously donate their time for free to authenticate bags. But from what I have learned, those who are worthy of such trust would never encourage people to take their word as the holy grail, but rather encourage people to get second and third opinions. I think we should all be a bit skeptical of anyone who touts themselves as being "all knowing" and their opinions as being unequivocal.

JMO... but this should be a rule in every sub-forum.

I've been amazed at some of the things I read regarding members' "fake" handbags
