We go to great lengths to make sure that we get several opinions from our resident experts before ever contacting a member about a questionable bag.

There is good reason for this rule. We have had some very well-meaning members wrongly accuse other members' bags of being fake, and as a result, many people's feelings have been truly hurt- and for no good reason! These are JUST BAGS and it isn't worth upsetting someone or sending another person into hysterics because you feel the need to point out that their bag might be fake.

I ask that everyone follow the proper protocol in reporting those bags that you think are fake so that we can handle the matter discreetly and respectfully. Thank you!

Will do , although I'm sooo.. bad with spotting fakes even though I would see one I wouldn't know
That's why I have you pros

Jag, I think that is a great idea. But shouldn't this also apply to other forums as well? Could this be passed on to the others?

It is actually the protocol for the entire forum. But if you feel that it is not being observed, you should definitely contact Megs, Vlad or the subforum mod and you can ask that a reminder be posted.

Hi everyone,

I am mad about this forum! Instead of working (so I may buy more Hermes) I find myself reading and learning. I love it and appreciate you knowledge and willingness to share.

Personally, I love being able to look at bags with an eye to discerning fakes from authentic. I've enjoyed examining the photos posted and trying to figure out whether it is real. I've guessed right, and I've guessed wrong. I still have lots to learn.

There seems to be so much conflicting information. For instance:
I thought new Birkins only come in a beige colored sleeper bag, then I saw them in orange bags on this forum.
I saw a photo of a bag that did not have leather bands connecting the feet on the outside bottom of the Birkin, and someone said it was okay (I may have misunderstood).

I have one Birkin which I purchased at an Hermes store. After reading and learning on this forum, I would not purchase anywhere else simply because I don't know that I could say with certainty what is real and what isn't. Some of the fakes look very real to me. And some of the real bags, especially in the wilder colors, look fake to me.

Again, thank you very much for sharing your passion and knowledge. This is my favorite forum on any subject on the internet.

Jag - I have noticed that several posts on the library/reference section are quite confusing. The people who post pics on bags in the forum seem to find them wherever on the internet and then basically guessing what color etc. For instance, the color "Forest green/Vert Foncé" is contstantly used as reference for actually 3 shades of green namely: green, emerald green and forest green. Although only forest green is in the current collection, it is not correct of course and confusing to include and refer to only forest green every time a darker green color appears. As it seems I am myself blocked from actually posting any post on the forum - I would appreciate if you could set the record straight and post pics of each and every of these greens preferrably in shiny crocodile.

If members are receiving PMs questioning the authenticity of their bags in contravention of existing tPF protocol/policy, then clearly, the rules surrounding authentication have gone off the rail somewhere. We as a group need to be able to revisit - or at least *discuss* - what that protocol and what those policies say.

Guests visit this site and new members join all the time, often specifically to have things "authenticated". If VickyB has a few questions about the authenticating process despite current, posted information, she is probably not the only one. And frankly, rules need to evolve. I've seen the Authenticate This thread periodically FLOOD with new posters who toss personal (and sometimes totally uninformed) opinions around - much to the chagrin of some of our very experienced thread contributors. Rules are important, because everyone benefits!

Whether I share her concerns or not, I think VickyB is absolutely as entitled to generate points for discussion as the next person. If we want to start measuring abstract "rudeness" around here, I have to say, I think a lot of seasoned tPFers might be surprised at how poorly they score.

jag, thank you for posting this sticky.

I absolutely agree piaffe! I get to know/love H thru this forum...but there are times...I get a feeling of "this is not for everybody" or "peoples forum" and felt like an outsider.

Thanks jag for this great new rule!

THis is a great forum, and it's so nice to have such a resource. I hope we all never forget to treat each other kindly!! And if you have been unkind, it's never to late to turn over a new leaf .

Gracemnot- Hello! We do not print all of the information regarding which color dust bags belong to which year on purpose because we do not want to put out too much information that could be used to sell fakes. So we try to be very careful about what information is on the blog. However, if you have any questions as to authenticity about a specific bag, please post in the Authenticate this Hermes thread in the shopping subforum.

CleoChinChin- Hi there. The reference area is a compilation of information that the members here have put together. It is by no means perfect or exhaustive, and is always a work-in-progress. Even so, it is one of the best resources available (especially for free). But please, if you have any specific comments/suggestions/edits- please send me a PM with the specific post number, and link to the specific thread, and exactly how you think the post should be edited, and we will absolutely look into it and make the necessary changes. I welcome any information or suggestions!!!

Thank you both for your comments!!!
