VickyB, I don't understand why you come here and shoot the lovely members who have been trying to help us. If this is what you want, please leave.

Pity that. You’ve wound yourself up, MrsS, nobody else to blame. In real life this forum doesn’t even matter. It's just a place to share guilty pleasures w/ other nice and kind peeps w/ the same interests.

Queenie, I love everybody here and I haven't said one unkind word . I am thankful for everybody's contributions and all the data they have to share. I only asked one simple question. I am baffled as to why it caused such a firestorm. I don't understand your negative post to me. I have always enjoyed your pics/posts in the past.

I'm no authority on making peace, but I certainly want to vote on keeping the peace :}

I believe it's personally responsible to watch what you post, and whose feelings you may inadvertently step on. Lesson learned, please be prudent and not presumptuous. ASK QUESTIONS, rather than assuming judgment.

It is my opinion that any of us, when posting to the Authenticate This thread owe a debt of gratitude for the graciousness and time the collective folks invest to help out. Really. Like MrsS wrote, it can be a timesink, but it's a thankless job done for the love of these products. That said, these volunteers have every reason to take any flaming or angry email personally, because their reputation is widely based on collective successes. They should be given respect and understanding in exchange for this favor they do for you.

When something goes wrong, it's not the responsibility of the persons who proffered their help, but the buyer who (figuratively) relinquished control of their decision in the hands of volunteers. It is my opinion that prudent buyers should be absolutely diligent, not impulsive, and always remain in control of gathering and processing all information. Once a decision is made to buy, you are to blame, not the folks in tPF who tried to help you with your decision (whether by authenticating or suggesting help).

When I write "you", it is to no one in particular, but I'd hope everyone who has been in a buying position would consider these thoughts.

I understand from your response post to me that any tpf expert always indicates to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion ,but then, what's the point of getting their opinion in the 1st place? I jsut don't want to see anybody mislead re potential purchases outside of H stores and potentially getting bilked out of 10000s of dollars. Frankly, I think that nobody short of working for H in the correct capacity has the right to authenticate an H item. Perhaps you might consider renaming the "authentication" thread to something like "opinions re authentication".
I think that is a great idea for all the sub-forums. The meaning of "authenticate" is too restrictive and denotes some sort of guarantee...

ETA: If I ever purchase an Hermes outside of its store, I would not hesitate to ask the ladies here for their opinions.

I can understand VickB's view on authentication (credential, enough evidence, consequence, etc). But I guess this is a leisure forum and no one should take others' advice blindly. There is risk and exposure buying fr eBay and i think people are aware.

I haven't been around this forum too long, but at other forum that i am a regular (a dog forum), people are nicer and have only nice things to talk about others' pets...(of course we don't get authentication...)

Thanks, Jag. :)

That is why, if I ever have to buy from a reseller,
I know I can trust the information here. And if there
are doubts, to just ask. :)

the main reson of a forum is to share knowledge details etc it should not be taken as the holy grail of everything merely as what it is shared knowledge what one makes out of it is not in control of the member who posted!

without opinions etc this forum would be quite a boring and sad place to be in and i personally appreciate all the balled up wealth of information this forum bears. and yes i agree firstly the knowledge of some members on here far succeeds the knowledge of a lot of sa´s i have encountered and sencondly i also agree when one is collecting h for years and years one get a feeling for details etc so i do cut these members some slack they do know their stuff and none of the members who post their opinion on the authenticate thread would take it too lightly to give out infos if she is not sure etc. there is where the forum jumps in 1 bag 10 opinions and if 9 of those say it is a fake well then it is your take to believe the one person who says it is not or the 9 who say otherwise.
take the forum as a tool and not as the "h bible knows it all" and you will be very happy and gain a lot of inside knowledge of the brand as a whole

thank you jag and all the moderators btw for their job you all do a great job

jag, you're a great mod/leader. It's rare to see mods who actually care about their "subjects'" feelings

Hi jag, thanks for this.

I was contacted because a picture of the bag looks a little bit suspecious because of the angle of which it was taken. I have to say I felt very self conscious of it and started to wonder if other members have been secrectly pm'g each other and for a few seconds doubt if I was wanted in the forum. But then I got over it pretty quickly. I sincerely don't think that person had any ill meaning and quick frankly it took a long of trust to contact someone you don't know that well to ask where they got that bag. I don't know, maybe I am just not easily to be offended and it was done in an discreet way, I just took the picture done and told myself don't be self conscious about it and move on.

I just want to share that people who might experience this before to say that it does happen to other people as well. But it was meant well and one just has to trust and do not take it too personally and everything will be good.

It's all good at the end!

If you suspect that someone has posted or purchased a fake bag, DO NOT contact that member. Contact either myself, Kellybag, Megs or Vlad and let us look into it and we will decide if that member should be contacted. We go to great lengths to make sure that we get several opinions from our resident experts before ever contacting a member about a questionable bag.

There is good reason for this rule. We have had some very well-meaning members wrongly accuse other members' bags of being fake, and as a result, many people's feelings have been truly hurt- and for no good reason! These are JUST BAGS and it isn't worth upsetting someone or sending another person into hysterics because you feel the need to point out that their bag might be fake.

I ask that everyone follow the proper protocol in reporting those bags that you think are fake so that we can handle the matter discreetly and respectfully. Thank you!
