What is the difference between Clemence and Togo leather?

I am looking at a gold Clemence bag and an Orange togo bag?
I have not had the luxury of seeing these other than over the Internet as I live in the middle of no where.

Thanks!

Show Me The Orange!
Clemence is the hide of the young bull. It's quite soft and squishy and a little heavier than togo.
Togo is the hide of the adult bull. The grains are a little smaller than clemence and the leather has an altogether crisper feel. Togo holds the shape better than clemence.
Both leathers are gorgeous IMO and it is a personal preference which one you would choose. IMHO clemence is perhaps a little less suitable for a bigger bag, but that is a completely personal preference, as some people just love the 'very relaxed' look on a Birkin for isntance.

I want a 30 bag, so sounds like either would work well. Is one heavier than the other in terms of weight?

In 30cm, I think it's a little less noticeable between Togo and Clemence. In 35cm, Clemence is heavier than Togo.

Yes. Clemence is heavier.

Also, Clemence takes color more than Togo so Rouge H for example will be deeper and richer in tone in Clemence and a bit lighter in Togo.

My personal experience holding a 35 birkin in both leathers is that there is no discernable difference in weight.

From a color perspective, I adore gold in clemence and I find orange in togo to be very dull/flat looking. I prefer orange in clemence.

Good luck with your decision

These threads can be of good use. Good luck!

Just saw that this was a very old thread, but since I looked up the links I post anyway. They might be of use for someone!

i have to say i can see the differance in the way the bag evolves my togo keeps its shape more and has a much nicer feel ,when open my clemence has changed more and it slouches a bit more they are both 35 the togo is blue jean and the clemence is etoupe taking into acount that they are both from the same year i will probably not buy anything but togo i also have a black swift and its fantastic but again not counting exotics togo is the best

For those colors, I prefer clemence, personally

Clemence smells divine! lol ok I'm sounding a bit weird now. Totally agree on the colour – the colour of your choices looks extremely nice on clemence. I find the grains to be nicer on clemence, too! Ok I’m a bit bias!

Clemence is softer when you rub your hand across the bag too. Togo can feel a bit scratchy.

IMHO I prefer clemence. Clemence leather looks and feels more luxurious. And I think it takes in color better than togo which tends to look a little dull.
