Jag, Decades is also a Brick n' Mortar store. They have "Decades" which specilizes in vintage as well as classic bags (so they sometimes have brand new Hermes) and "Decades II" which specilizes in the more "It" stuff.

Pink, I was there in 2000 (and I was just window shopping!), so the prices will be different now, and I am cr*p at converting the currency (would do from French Franc, to Aussie DOllar to USD!!!).....anyway, they had LOTS of Kellys, and other Hermes bags......a really vast selection, although when I went, they weren't as well known as they are now.

Check them out - I've heard it's where all the Parisiens trade-in their Hermes!

I need to share this even though I could be way off base; I don't believe I am.

A few weeks ago, I found this bag on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=250018174052

I corresponded with the seller "bauhaus1958" about the bag but ultimately was not the highest bidder.

Within hours of the end of auction, I received an email asking me if I wanted to purchase the bag because the buyer could not pay in a timely manner. I decided not to answer the seller because I was confused about the way in which I was contacted (ebay advises against communicating directly via email - sometimes I can't tell if the seller has my email... need to work on that.) Also, I have since purchased a different bag from a reputable dealer.

I have now received three or four 2nd chance emails (through ebay) to buy this bag and have ignored all of them. Finally tonight though I thought to check the buyer's feedback and sure enough, the winning bidder has left bauhaus1958 positive feedback for selling her this bag and the seller has left positive feedback for the buyer as well.

With this information, I now believe that this seller is attempting to sell me a bag that appears to have already been delivered to the winning bidder.

Was this a private auction? Oftentimes it's not the seller that is doing this--sometimes the scammer will see who has bid on an item and send out the "fake" E-mails--this happened to another PFer on the Balenciaga subforum--the best way to protect yourself is to E-mail the seller directly to see what their E-mail address is and compare it to the E-mail that pops up when you reply:

BE CAREFUL ON EBAY!!! please read

^ Orchids is definitely right - I had that happen to me years ago - the 2d chance offer wasn't from the original seller - it was from a scammer trying to make you think you'd get the original item.

So even though I have no idea whether that's the case here, it's possible that the seller of that Kelly was fine and some other miserable scammer sent out the fake e-mails.

Oh man... I think this might be what's happening. The notices have been from a variety of email addresses! I assumed the seller was using a bunch of different addresses for some sinister reason but this makes me think he may have nothing to do with it!?

Orchids - this wasn't a private auction - meant to put that in my post a second ago... :)

Jenifer - there's your answer. That's exactly what happened to me and I was so freaked out!

It sounds like the seller has nothing to do with it - this is actually a really common scam. Thank heaven you didn't respond to the e-mails.

Yup, that's the problem. When the auction isn't private, any scammer has access to who has bid and then they send out these fake second-chance E-mails. It's absolutely horrible--for both sellers and buyers alike. Agree w/style101--it's a good thing you didn't respond to those E-mails!

Ok - hopefully, I can put this topic to bed after this but here's the last bit: tonight I received an "invoice" requesting payment for my 2nd chance bid on this kelly bag. (I have not responded to any of the notes I've gotten about this "2nd chance." I forwarded the note to ebay's fraud department and received confirmation that the note was, of course, a fraud.

I have had excellent service from ebay sellers timeless pieces (aka objets intemporels) and greenjade927, for scarves and other Hermes items...fast international shipping, authentic items in A1 condition, friendly service and lovely packaging.
