What does it smell like? Cigarettes? Mildew? Stuffing with plain paper might help also aside from the baking soda. There are odor removal product on the market. I would try to remove the odor as opposed to replacing it with something else. Google up "smell remover" and you will find many products.

That's why the bicarb is good, it absorbs the odour rather than masking it like gakky Febreze

Oh I cringe whenever I see one of the F. commercials. My DH used febreeze once on a fabric that could not be washed and it just overpowered the smell. Took nothing away, probably locked it in.

Musty, dank, dirty...like a Goodwill store but VERY strong. What is weird is this bag is pristine looking - just stinky! I am starting to think it was the sleeper that was smelly to begin with and it's smell leeched onto the bag because it was pretty smelly too. So the sleeper is in the trash.

My dad was visiting today and I was standing a good foot or two away from him when I was showing him the bag. (I hadn't mention the smell to him prior) While I was showing it to him he took it out of my hands, raised it to his nose and said "ok it's this purse that stinks, glad it's not you kiddo". Gee, thanks dad for thinking I might be stinky

Lovely. Someone standing a good two feet from me could smell the funk.

For now it is sitting FAR away from my other bags. I don't want it's funk leeching over to the other purses.

Ugh, I cannot stand the smell of Fabreeze; it gives me a terrible migraine. MY MIL loves that stuff so I have learned to take some asprin BEFORE going over to her house because I am bound to get a headache. (honestly from the Fabreeze not her )

I had a wonderful transaction with nyfashionexpert. She was extremely fast in responding to emails, provided additional photos immediately upon request, and was very nice and polite. Shipping was extremely fast. She shipped the same day she received the funds. Bag was carefully packed and was in the condion promised. I will definitely buy from her again.

You can wash the sleeper....I washed one, the brown from the string ran a little though..

I would wipe the bag down with a slightly (just barely, as in almost not damp at all) damp cloth, and let it air out for a little while every day, if you can. You can use baking soda in a sock or cup, or tea bags also.

Good luck. I am shocked about the packaging, I mean, really!!!
Thats just unbelievable. I had to read it over twice, I couldnt believe my eyes!

The sleeper had a hole in it near the top. I didn't mind throwing it out - a nice cotton pillowcase will suffice much better.

I like the sock idea, thanks! I have had the bag airing out all day near an open window and a box of soda next to it. (breeze has been blowing past the box and towards the purse) I think I will try the baking soda/sock idea next for the insides.

Yes, the packaging was a shock. I had a couple of other items coming in from other sellers and when I ripped open the package I figured it was one of them; I had no idea this would be the Kelly. As soon as I tore it open and could tell it was the Kelly I ran for the digital camera. I figured if there was damage I needed proof of the packaging. I ended up taking step by step pictures as I unwrapped it.

My eBay recommendations:

user857857 - I bought a vermillion Birkin from her last year (and decided to sell it back to her because I caved and went on an LV buying spree at full-price). Her son works for P and takes care of selling off her collection. She has an awesome collection.

sandiaexchange - they have AWESOME pieces with comparable prices. They communicated with me expediently, so I will be keeping my eyes out.

kaleidoplace - why didn't I see these folks before? What was I thinking? Nancy is such a sweet lady, and like me, a nocturnal emailer. We corresponded lots before I decided to buy elsewhere (because *somebody* got to those Raisin box calf Birkins before I could ;}).

hermes**/onlythebest - Kelly's always a sweetheart, and she finds some of the most hard-to-get pieces. I haven't bought from her yet, but some day, when the price is right, and so are the materials..

bagteria - Mira has awesome prices for her inventory. I'm not sure how she can afford to do that, but it's pretty darn awesome for the buyer.

I hope this message is okay. Let me know if not, and I'll edit my thread response accordingly.

Another thumbs-up for bagteria. I just purchased from her (bag should be here any day) and so far the experience has been great. She is wonderful on the communication; something I really appreciate in a seller.

I can't believe someone would ship your bag in a mailing bag??? Why wasn't it in a box?

Guess she figures since she was taking advantage of the free shipping promo for sellers to get reduced FVF, she didn't owe the buyer decent packaging. Uh, NOT!! I get pissy when I get scarves shipped to me (in the box) sent like that, but a KELLY?? So far I've been lucky with the scarves and only one box got smashed.

I'm psycho in more than one way: I'd rather eat some of the shipping costs that ship items underwrapped, underprotected. Ask anyone that's bought from me.
